Anyone shooting .357 in a Lightweight J-frame?

It's hard to find anyone who is shooting .357 in any of the new titanium lightweights. Most people who try them seem to fall back to .38 ammo. Is anyone succeeding? If so, with what rounds? Thanks. adk

I'd guess that 110gr JHP's would probably be the easiest on the hand, but I truly have no desire to try them in a 12-oz. gun to find out. ;)

I actually got to shoot one a couple of weeks ago. He was shooting 110's and 125's thru it. I shot 5 rounds of Win 110's and it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be...(Im not recoil shy at all, but was still apprehensive :D ) It made my palm red for a while. Typical J frame gun..nice trigger, accurate etc. He actually shot a box of rounds while next to me .......yee haa

Like I said...Im not recoil shy at all. BUT, this gun wouldnt be a great carry for me. I like to shoot my carry rounds as often as possible and IMO, I thought Id never say this, I wouldnt want to shoot it as often as I do normally. I personally LOVE 357 snubbies. I shoot 357's in guns chambered for them...

I also saw a Scandium gun lock up on another occasion, first shoot with his new gun. Bummer...It was a sad day to watch a 600$ gun go down range and land in the dirt....the cylinder twisted inside of the frame and wedged itself very nicely.

Shoot well

158gr Federal Softpoint. Works well and cartridges don't let the bullets slip from recoil. Think the heavier bullets hit closer to where the sights are set.

I shoot 125's from a 340pd. Works great - I think I'm slightly slower than with 38's, but I used it in a class and went head to head with the auto guys and think I finished with the pack on three round drills.

Accuracy is good either with 38's or 357's but you develop a real flinch - still it takes more than 5 rounds to get that flinch and for almost double the energy I think the 357's are worth it.

I use a thumb high hold over the top of the cyl. release. This seems to spread the pain out over more of my hand. Low thumb hold just pounds the web of my hand on this 12 oz gun.

I have a 617T

I have a 617t .357 7 shot....LOUDEST pistol i ever shot....but i am a .357 fan dont have any 44's... I bought .38+p...proloads..for it....much better

chris

Also shoot the 340PD, but use the tactical lite 357 loading from Proload. Have also fired 110 gr loads (the Remington SJHP), which aren't too bad recoilwise (N.B.: S&W frowns upon using 110 gr in the 340PD). I added a Craig Spegel boot grip (high horn style), which protects the web of the hand better in recoil. Still, this little gun gets tiresome by the 4th cylinder!

I had a 342ti, but upgraded to the 340sc. Great to carry, not fun to shoot. Even .38's are somewhat rough, but .357's are downright painful. Love the gun, carry with full house .357's. If I ever need to use it in self-defense, I'll deal with the slight soreness in my palm. This is not a target gun, and is not intended for 25 yard head shots. For it's intended purpose, I can control the .357's sufficiently to feel comfortable.

BTW, if I recall, the barrel of the gun says not to use loads with less than 125 grain bullets.
