Anyone seen my nipples?

I just wrestled this out of a 1973 Rigarmi NMA after a couple of days soaked in oil. I'm thinking it's an M6x.75, but I don't own anything that takes one so I'm not sure. Anybody know by looking? As an aside, this gun is on the small side and looks alot like some euroarms I've been looking at lately. Anybody with a euroarms around here that has an OAL for their cylinder? An Uberti fits, but has a little endshake.

Can't tell by looking.

Take it to the local hardware and either ask to use their thread gauge or compare it to bolts with the following thread sizes:
SAE 12x28 and 1/4x28
Metric M6x1.0 and M6x0.75
It'll be one of those.

Lowes and Home Depot have a board in their hardware section with various sizes of male and female threaded fixtures that you can try.

I feel your pain, though. I recently went through this with a Pietta clone of a Remington New Model Army. I used PB Blaster on the nipples and four of 'em came out right away. The last two were a booger!

I ended up plugging the flash holes with a round wooden toothpick that I cut off almost flush (so the cylinder would stand on end), then put about 1/4" of penetrating oil in those two chambers and let it soak overnight. I then used a good quality nipple wrench - one of those t-shaped ones - and looped a small box-end wrench over one of the cross-handles for extra leverage and finally broke 'em loose.

I chewed up my t-handle on it. Scratched this out with a dremel from a spare allen. Could'nt believe it worked. The gun appears unfired. The only rust was the flash rust around the nipple thread. Neat gun. The lands are a strange shape. they look a little like some in a sistema colt I have taht was rearsenalled before it left Argentina. Anybody have one of these Rigarmis?

My step-dad left me a black powder rifle he built from a kit and I can not get the nipple of. I understand you guys are using PB blaster, or another similar type of penetrating oil, to loosen the nipple.

Once I soak the nipple (Putting copious amounts in the barrel and on the outside of the nipple, could I use an easy-out broken bolt remover to get this thing out?

I do not know if I will ever shoot this thing, but it irritates me that it is not functional if I did want to use it.

Thanks.

I know this is hard to believe but the very best product I've found for freeing up stuck bolts, nuts etc is "Oil of Wintergreen" use a Q-Tip to put is on a couple of 5 minute applications should free it up. If I ever get a stuck nipple its whay I'll use. I'm an old aircraft mechanic learned this 4 years ago and always have a bottle handie.

You know what? Unless there's a major reason to remove the nipple, I wouldn't go to major extreme measures, such as an EZ-Out, to remove it. It's just the fitting where the percussion cap goes on, and if the flash hole is clear to the chamber, then just leave it be if it's that's bad. Just shoot it and clean it as best you can, and don't worry about it.

In my case I had a brand-new pistol right out of the box, and wanted to get them out so I could grease the threads so they didn't rust up tight. If I had an old firearm, especially a family keepsake, if PB Blaster or Oil of Wintergreen or whatever didn't do it, then I'd just leave the thing in there.

Not being able to remove the nipple in no way renders the firearm disfunctional.

In my experience, the best products for loosening stuck bolts/screws/nipples are, in decreasing order of effectiveness:

1) a 50/50 solution of acetone and automatic transmission fluid
2) Kroil
3) Liquid Wrench
4) everything else

I have not used wintergreen oil but have seen many positive testimonials about it.

Being able to remove the nipple is important. You cannot fully clean the flash channel with it in place as the hole in the bottom of the nipple is much smaller than the one on the top - the only thing that will go through it is a thin wire. If that lower hole is as large as the upper one, the nipple should be replaced. Eventually gas cutting will enlarge that hole and make the nipple worthless.
