Anyone seen a S&W 721 9mm revolver ?

I felt pretty cool at the range w/ my SP101 9mm, thought I was the only game in town. Imagine my surprise when the RSO drops by and says "Hey, do you have any spare 9mm? The captain down at that end needs to borrow some for his revolver."

At first, I was skeptical, but I walked up w/ a few spare rounds, and the gentleman did indeed have a 9mm revolver. Blue, appeared to be a 4" bbl K-frame. He had the box and everything, labeled "S&W 721". He'd inherited it from his uncle, who'd apparently acquired it while living in Spain.

It had an excellent SA, good DA, and extracted rounds with some kind of rotating arms which spun out from the star as it was pushed. Did not use moon clips at all.

I've never even heard of such a thing, and couldn't find any reference to it on TFL. I'd thought the only 9mm revos were SP101, 940, and that failed Charter Arms for the 9mmR (anyone got one for sale?).

Is the 721 for real?

Sounds like a S&W 547 to me.

K frame Blued with 3" or 4" barrel, made for the French. It had a special extractor system that did not need moonclips.

6mm

That gun was sold in the USA as the Model 547, trick extractor and all. I have never heard of a M-721, maybe that was the export designation.

But if you look around for M-547 you will turn up some information and probably some for sale.

Yup! Sounds like a 547 to me. S&W marketed them a lot in Europe and may have changed the model number. I bought mine 18 years ago. It is one of my favorite handguns. Very accurate service revolver. Been looking for another but they command too high a price nowdays.

Gots 'ta be a 547

Mr. Bloom, you are correct, they are very accurate and expensive. I found mine in a gunshop in Redding, Cal., last year for $ 395 almost NIB, but w/out the box. WinWhite box ammomakes for a ragged hole in the center of my targets, CCI cheapies pattern more like buckshot. I was leery of a 3-inch barrell at first, preferring a few silly little millimeters more. Now, if I could find a twin to keep the one I've got company . . .
