Caught one of the morning news programs this morning (ABC I think) and Wayne Lapierre (sp? - sorry) was on. The anchor was trying to pull the usual hatchet job on the NRA. Wayne pretty well took control of the segment, turned it into a nice job of Gore-bashing, got the word out on some of his flip-flops on gun control to a lot of viewers. Way to go Wayne!!!

Again, please note it is "Neil Peart," pronounced "Peert," and he is a former Libertarian who now favors banning handguns. I listen to his music (brilliant stuff, and since he's Canadian, he is irrelevant to US politics), but I won't use his quotes in this forum.

My favorite part of the appearance was when Cokie tried to spin the NRA's election expenditures as being too much money for a special interest group to spend, and instead of answering the question, Mr. La Pierre said something like, "The NRA will spend as much as our members send us", taking her question and using it as a reminder (and plea) to the troops to send in some dollars before it is too late.

He also did very well deflecting the questions about "a holy war" and "working out of the oval office". Mr La Pierre explained why gun owners are upset and feeling more than a little villified, and he also pointed out that under Clinton/Gore the gun-grabbers have had an awful lot of access to the oval office.

Well done Mr. (executive) Vice President!

MM, where did you get the idea that Neil favors banning guns?
