Anyone pocket carry a 3" J-Frame?

So, I recently discovered the joy of pocket carrying my airweight model 36. I really enjoy it over IWB carrying my p-64 just for the comfortaility factor.

However I was wondering, does anyone pocket carry a 3 inch gun? Seems like it would be a close fit. (Mine has about 1/2" until the barrel will poke out of the holster) and maybe an inch before its visible in my pocket. So I know it will be close.

Thinking about maybe getting myself a S&W 632 now that i've started reloading. Or maybe even a model 60. But only if I can sucessfully pocket carry them.....

Your thoughts?

I find the 3 in barrels just a tad long for pocket carry. I'm not saying it can't be done just you have to put a little effort into it. I don't think the mod 36 is an airweight so if you like to pocket carry with it you would really like an airweight for pocket carry. Try a S&W model 638 to me the perfect pocket gun.;)

I can't fit any bigger than the 2 1/8" power port in my jeans pockets. Unless you go to a cargo pocket carry, I can't see it.

I know I can't pocket carry anything bigger than chapstick in my jeans.... without going to the baggy pants/gangster look, which is not going to happen..... I have not even found a decent way to carry my 3" sp-101 IWB ....

All you who pocket carry wheel guns: would you mind posting pics? I want to see how that works.

I'll be happy to post a pic when I get home, NJ doesn't let me leave my home with my guns :( unless of course I'm traveling to an "Approved Location"

I wear a size 40 jeans so that may help as well

If it has airweight on it then I think it's a Model 37 which is the airweight version of the mod 36. Nice gun grandpa had good taste.

He did indeed, I hated this gun at first until I learned how to shoot it. Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. When i finally accepted it was me and not the gun I started to improve.

My LGS guy belives to be a "cheifs special" Which make's sense as my grandfather was the cheif of police lol.

I have a 638 with a 2.5 inch bbl. I have some rubber grips on it that allow me to put all three fingers below the trigger guard. It's just a little bit bigger at both ends than the 642 I used to pocket carry, but I shoot it just a little better, and so I carry the 638 instead. The back of the grip sticks up a little above the top of the jeans pocket, but when I wear a pair of 5.11 shorts, it disappears.

Don't know if I'd try a three incher, though I just bought one of them from a guy with box, cleaning rod, papers, original owners permit to purchase from NJ, receipt. Probably try to sell it to someone...

I used to carry my S & W .38 special Revolver in a modified sun glass pouch -- i cut off the top third of this soft pouch and the Pistol fit inside it real well and was easy to retrieve. It also took care of any pistol outline thru the pants. But i now prefer to carry my GLock 45 cal. in a Fanny Pack with concealed rear compartment held on by strong velcro.

Don't have a pic, but I carry a 642 in a pocket holster in the front pocket of my cargo shorts - something I wear about 48/52 weeks a year. I prefer IZOD as one of the brands as the pocket is a slash type (and not like a pair of jeans, more like Khakis), and the pockets are deep. I have to remember not to put anything else in there, like my keys which I have been doing for over 35 years, but it gets easier the more you do it

Three inch barrel would be too much for me. Although its not so much the barrel but the bulk that gets me with pocket carry. I've all but given up on it for everyday carry.

642

If you're still shopping, try a 642... I love mine and judging by the thousands of happy posters you'll find on the net, for a lot of folks, it's just the ticket for pocket carry.

On occasion, I do carry a Smith & Wesson 940 3" in my pocket. My usual carry is a an FN/Browning 1910 .380, though.

I pocket carry a M640 Centennial with a 2.125 barrel. On a few pairs of pants I have had to modify the pocket by adding to the length with additional material.

I get a smaller foot print with this M32 Terrier with a 2" round butt.

Nice revolver. Tip, to aid in preventing pocket carry printing, get some iron on patches and iron them on the inside your pants in front or your pocket. The extra thickness helps reduce printing. A pocket holser of "sun glass case" is a must. IMO

madcratebuilder...
Nice revolvers, what brand are those holsters? I have a Galco 158 and it's a little larger than those.I'd like to get one like yours.
