Anyone own one of these?

How much money? I wouldn't have it if you gave it to me as I do not care for recent S&W products, hate stainless steel, and have no use at all for muzzle brakes and compensators. But you're the one asking about it, so just imagine the gun on a table next to a pile of cash equal to its selling price. You are invited to take one or the other. Which do you take?

BTW- How does one hang onto this thing with those smooth grips? I am guessing this is some sort of souped-up .44 or .45, right?

Saxonpig,
Yes I am the one ASKING about it and I'm also the one ASKING if anyone own's one and if THEY thought it was worth the extra cost of SW performance center product's.
You obviously don't own one and from your post I think it is safe to assume you are not crazy about the current line of SW products..........suit yourself.
I don't know about the grips but grips can be changed and from the one person I have spoken to about the grips they claimed that they were very comfortable,
I don't know enough about it to comment any further hence my question.

I own one that I picked up this past Spring. As soon as I handled it I knew it was of higher quality than regular 629s. Tighter fitting unfluted cylinder, nice trigger, etc.. I wanted it as a heavy load bear gun for backpacking (mine is the 3" barreled model). I've since seen and handled similar models such as the Trail Boss model. In each case I've come away glad that I spent the extra $150 for the v-comp. Even with the 3' bbl it's one of my most accurate and seems to shoot all loads equally well. I did end up putting a set of Hogue grips on it, they shoot more comfortably for me and give more room for using a speedloader.

Worth the money ?

That's for you to decide. The majority of those that own & shoot the PC's seem to be quite happy with them. The few that have been disappointed complain about the workmanship of their particular pistol for the money they paid. S&W in most cases makes it right for them.
Your "need/want" factor will decide the value.
Politics aside, I personally would more apt to spend that kind of money on the classic older models.

Black Jack .45,

I don't have the 629 V-comp, but I have owned a 625 V-comp for the last couple of years. The Performance Center V-comps are great guns!!

Are they worth it?!? I think so, but only you can decide. For the roughly $250 bump in price you get:

1) Special bead blast finish.
2) Dovetailed Millet fromt sight
3) Removable compensator
4) "V" barrel profile
5) Nice grips
6) PC Case

I have a 627 VCOMP

and I am completely enamored with it. It is built so well and solid. I love mine.

My only complaint is a tight double action trigger pull. Smooth, but tight. Needs to be worked out, as mine is a new gun.

Black Jack- You obviously took offense at my comments and that was not my intention. I frequently get a little irreverent in my posts just for the sake of entertainment value. All this technical talk gets a little dry, sometimes. I was only trying to say that nobody can tell you if any particular gun is worth the price. You have to decide that for yourself. If you want it, buy it. You don't need anyone else's permission. If it doesn't work out, well, it's not like you're married to it, you know. :)

I have owned one PC revolver, and quite honestly I hated it. Fit and finish are better on my cheapo taurus 85. When the by goes by its your cash, if you like you buy. For me no not near worth the money
