Anyone own a Walther P99>

I am considering the .40 cal.
what cal to you have? Like it? How reliable is it?
What hollow point ammo will it feed?
I found the trigger to be a little snappy after its smooth pull which vibrates the front sight slightly... Does this effect accuracy or bother anyone while shooting?

I have a P-99 Military 9mm. It stovepiped five or six times withun the first 400 rounds with 115 grain ammo only, but has been 100% with everything else (124 & 147 grain ball & hollow points) from the beginning. Since the last stovepipe in the first 400 rounds I haven't had any other failures. I have only tested Hydra-Shoks and Gold Dots (in both 124 and 147 grain weights) to date, but I will be testing some SXT's as soon as my local shop gets them in. (They don't normally stock them, but they ordered some for me.)

I have a P99 (in OD) in 9mm as well. I bought it used with less than 300 rounds through it. Since buying it, I've put 250 rounds through it without one malfunction or failure of any kind. I've used 115, 124, 135 grain factory ball, reloads, and hollowpoint (Fed Hydra-shoks) ammo. Heard there were problems with 115 gr, but I went through a box of 115 gr reloads today without a single hiccup. Accuracy is also top-notch. In side-by-side comparisions with a Glock 19 - I shot tighter groups with the P99. Comparing the .40 cal and 9mm P99's - the 9mm had better shot groups and less felt recoil. I don't like the .40 caliber platform in general, but would love to get a P99 in .45. People compain about the long DA pull, but if you don't like it - you can just leave it in SA. Ergonomics - won't believe it until you actually hold one. If you don't have a P99 yet, buy one. If you already have one, buy more. ;)

davidkxx,

Did you post this same question on AR15.com?

Like I said there, I've got six of them. I wouldn't have so many if I didn't like them. Of course I have a lot of other Walther's too. :)

I haven't ever noticed my front sight vibrating before. I've found the P99 to be very accurate. It has served me well in IDPA competition. I've had all sorts of hollow points through it and never a hicup. I've had problems with reloading Rainier bullets however. They are really soft and jam up on the feed ramp because they collapse from the pressure.

Any other questions? I'd be happy to reply.

I have one in 9mm. I feed it 124gr Remington Golden Sabers. It is reliable. No, the front sight on mine does not vibrate!!

Anyone own a Walther P99

I have had my P99 Military model for approximately a week now. It is of the traditional DA/SA flavor and in .40S&W caliber.

I have only put 340 rounds thru it so far and have experienced only 2 failure to feed malfunctions but that was in the first 50 rounds and on the last shot using the same magazine. I have had no further failures of any kind.

Accuracy is excellent with all types of ammo. I have experienced NO front sight vibration.

I now have the same gun on order in 9x19 because I like my .40 so well. :D I believe my next will be a traditional black frame ver. in QA, caliber has yet to be determined but I'm leaning toward .40S&W again.

I feel the weapon is very well made. Workmanship is first rate, as I would expect from Walther.

Before I made my purchase I read where some P99 owners complained about the first DA shot. One owner that I know actually sold his P99 because of this. I found my P99 DA to be better, smoother, that any S&W, Beretta or HK DA that I have owned or fired.

I recommend you go ahead and make the purchase. If you don't like the P99 you will always be able to find a buyer.

My two P99s (9mm Black and Military) have never experienced any malfunctions whatsoever with MANY types of ammo. I have two others that are pretty guns I'm not shooting :D

As for the front site, it's possible that the tiny screw that keeps it in place has worked itself loose. Try tightening it with the provided tool and see if that resolves it.

i have a p-99 in 9mm, have had it for over a year...have shot about 3k rounds through it with no problems. only time that it's stovepiped is when the wife limpwristed it. i'm considering a second handgun in the near future and might get a matching p-99. whatever you do, make sure that the one you purchase has the german proofmarks. if it doesn't then it's one that S&W had a hand in. don't recommend it.

good luck and happy shooting.

Well, I guess it's obvious where I fall on your question. I have the 9mm version with the standard DA/SA trigger. I love mine. It is more accurate than I am at this point but I am working on that.

I have found it very reliable. If your front sight is moving you should check it as mentioned earlier, it may have worked loose.

adept hit it on the head. Get the full german version with proof marks. You won't be disappointed.

If you want more info do a search in the forums for Walther P99. There is a long thread "Who still loves their P99" with lots of good info in it.
