Anyone own a Glock .357 Sig??

I am interested in picking up a Glock. I really like the idea behind the .357 Sig. I was curious if anyone had any firsthand opinions. I don't care for the full size model and I am trying to decide between the compact and carry model. Can I get one with ports? I also own a 6" 686 and I can take 125 gr hand punsihment since I use rubber grips. How does the Glock do in comparision?Sorry to get into the old "how bad does it recoil post" but I am curious if the polymer spreads the recoil out and if the ports would help. I know the weight of my 686 plus the grips help with recoil. Thanks.

Patton, I have a .357 Sig in Sig 226. I also have a Colt .357 King Cobra. You are absolutely correct about the weight of the revolver making a big difference in felt recoil. That said, I dearly love the Sig and find it utterly reliable, and more accurate than I am. I have put at least 10K rounds thru it , and while the recoil is snappy, it is controllable and fun to shoot; and never has had a FTF or FTE, OR FTF. I carry it daily. If you want it in a Glock, get it. You won't be dissappointed. Ray

I have a G32 that I have been considering as a carry gun. It is not unpleasant to shoot but I don't consider myself very recoil sensitive. I have never fired the G33 but would think that grip extensions are a must whereas I have chosen to leave them off my G26. I personally have decided I don't care for the porting option having opted to put an unported barrel in my G20C. If you haven't already you might try posting at www.glocktalk.com.

The G32 is a great little pistol and if you can find some G23 full capacity mags that gives you 15 rounds (you can get one more round of .357 than .40) of a rather potent round ready to go.

Concerning the revolver comparison, I have a 5" and a 3" 686 and I believe, with similar ballistics, the Glock has less felt recoil due to the lower bore axis and the fact that with a revolver all energy is transfered to recoil action whereas in an autoloader some of that energy must cycle the action of the pistol.

I have a Glock 31 and its my faviorate fighting handgun. It will push speer gold dots at 1430 and the recoil is about the same as a 40 loaded with 180 grain loads. I also have a 24 upper with a 357 sig KKM barrel and it will push the same load at 1530.

Hello Patton,

I have a Glock 33 and really love it.
You can get a G27 barrel for it and now you have .40 capability also...

I put the Pierce +1 grip extensions on it which give it a 10 round capacity in the magazine as well as a place to wrap my pinky around.

As for recoil, I have found that with the dual recoil springs that the "Baby Glocks" come with, recoil isn`t that bad at all.

I haven`t shot the middle sized or full sized Glocks in .357 SIG yet, so I don`t know how they rate when it comes to recoil...

Good luck with your selection, and let us know which one you decide on. :)

I've had a 33 for about 3 years now, and it's my primary defense gun. I have never found the recoil to be an issue, but I initially was startled by the concussion wave that comes out of the short bbl and thumps you in the chest. It's not any worse than shooting full-house mags in any pistol, but it's startling out of the baby Glock.

You can certainly have the thing ported, but you won't need ports to control recoil/muzzle flip. The polymer may help lighten the recoil somewhat, but (if you're like me) you're shooting light (125 gr.) bullets that just don't generate a lot of recoil. Lots and lots of muzzle flash and noise, a decent concussion blast from the muzzle, but not much recoil.

You might want to go over to Glock Talk and look in the General Glocking and .357 Sig club archives on this one - I know we've talked it to death there.

I fired a friend's G33 with Pierce extension a few weeks ago. I have to say that the G33 ROCKS!! I want one now. The recoil is a little stout, but from such a small pistol it is not bad at all, certainly not what I expected and by no means is it punishing to shoot.
The only bad thing is that when we got back from the range, we took the 33 down for inspection. When my friend tried to put it back together, the recoil guide snapped about 1/4 inch from the plug. No easy fix for that one, but I think Glockworks makes a titanium guide rod so if I do buy one I would replace it.
My other .357 SIG pistols are the SIG 229 and 239.

At one time or another, I've owned the Glock 33, 32, & 31. They all worked great. The subcompact is nice. Buth the full sized 31 has a little softer felt recoil.

I've fired 357 SIG rounds through a Glock 35 with a KKM barrel and that's downright sweet. Too bad Glock doesn't market a longslide Glock 3X.

HEY BUB,
PASS ON THE G32 357SIG GUN. AS AN AVID GLOCK OWNER GO FOR THE GLOCK 23 IN .40 CAL. YOULL BE MUCH HAPPIER WHIT THE KNOCK DOWN POWER BESIDES THE FACT THAT THE SIG SHELL ARE OVERLY PRICED FOR A 9MM BULLET WITH A .40 CAL CASING. I HAVE OWNED A G26 AND 23 TO NAME A FEW AND THE G32 WAS MY PERSONAL CARRY GUN FOR OVER A YEAR AND I FINALLY SOLD IT AND GOT THE .357SIG BARREL FOR JUST OVER $125.00 FROM WWW.GLOCKMEISTER.COM IN PHOENIX.
SO NOW I HAVE MORE KNOCK DOWN POWER IN THE .40 FOR CARRY BUT I ENJOY THE .357SIG FOR COMPETITION. GOOD LUCK. A GOD BLESS ALL YOU GLOCK OWNERS OUT THERE. :)

(Shh!) :)

Yeah, but you lose velocity with those aftermarket bbls, compared to the Glock factory polygonal bbls. Since the .357 Sig relies so heavily on velocity, and since you're considering the short bbl, doesn't it make more sense to get the Glock and then buy a .40 aftermarket bbl?

I have a G33 and wrists like spaghetti noodles. No problems firing the original "Pocket Rocket" with or without the pinky-rest on the magazines. (If anything, being able to curl your pinky firmly under the mag floorplate cuts down on muzzle-flip. It'll feel "Eeeww, different!" but give it a try!)

i have the 23 that i also have a ported 357sig barrel for. i think the 357sig is overpriced ( $18 vs. $11 at the one local store that i could find that even stocked them ) and somewhat overated. both are manageable for recoil but my 357sig definetely has a sharper smack. makes the 40sw feel like a 9mm. if you like the newest caliber untill the next in vougue one comes along get the 357sig. if you want the other relatively new but also the one shown to have staying power go for the 40sw. pre ban mags of the 40sw should fit a new 357 as well as a converted to 357 so high caps shouldnt matter in decision between the two. wyatt

MIDSOUTHSPORTS

There is no such thing as knock down power in any gun as it would knock the shooter over as well as the target. The 357 sig is more power full than the hottest 40. The 357 sig has 567 foot pounds of energy with a 125 grain bullet at 1430 from my glock 31. The Glock 22 with a 135 grain bullet at 1300 has just 506 foot pounds. Also to say the 357 sig is an over priced 9mm is like saying the 357 mag is an overpriced 38 special. The 357 sig also is much more accurate than the 40 short and weak.

I have a glock 33, which I like very much, and the recoil is quite manageable. It is also very accurate for the size of the gun. I also have a glock 29 which I like quite a lot, with a sidearmor holster.

DEAR 355SIGFAN,

FIRST I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHER YOUR #'S CAME FROM, THIS ISNT PERSONAL BUT HERE ARE THE CHRONOGRAPHED AND DOCUMENTED "FACTS".
THIS IS NOT MY OPINION.COMPARISON DONE WITH GLOCK .357SIG AND GLOCK .40. approx. 4" barrel.

.357SIG- shooting various S&W JHP @ 150GR
HAS A MUZZLE VELOCITY OF 1130(FPS), 420(FT-LBS)OF ENERGY AT THE MUZZLE AND 355(FT-LBS) OF ENERGY @ 50 YARDS.

.40- SHOOTING VARIOUS S&W JHP @155GR.
HAS A MUZZLE VELOCITY OF 1205(FPS), 500(FT-LBS) OF ENERGY @ THE MUZZLE AND 414(FT-LBS) OF ENERGY @ 50 YARDS.

THIS IN TURN RESULTS IN GREATER EXPANSION ON IMPACT WHICH RESULTS IN "KNOCKDOWN POWER". THIS IS NOT MY MADE UP WORD BUT ONE USED EVERYDAY IN OR RELATED TRADES.

THIS IS ALSO WHY OVER 1/2 THE FEDERAL GOVT SWITCHED TO THE GLOCK 23 .40 CAL.

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FOR YOUR JOB BECAUSE AS WELL AS MINE NOT ALOT OF PEOPLE WANT TO DO WHAT WE DO. I JUST SPEND ALOT OF TIME WITH LEARNING BALLISTICS WHEN NOT WORKING. AND AS WELL AS ALL SHOOTERS KNOW....BALLISTICS WILL CHANGE SLIGHTLY BY MANUFACTURE. STAY SAFE .....
