Anyone own a FS 9MM 1911 for EDC?

I was wondering about it. In this day and age of light weight polymer 9mms, etc is there an excuse for a full size, all steel 1911 in 9mm?

Who EDCs one?...if it was the only gun I had I would easily make-do but prefer something lighter and smaller for carry. My carry 1911 is a LW Commander in .45. I have one more 1911. A Springfield Mil-Spec, also .45 and I love it but don't carry it concealed very often.

I suppose at 40 plus ounces, if reliable, an all steel, 9mm 1911 would make an excellent, low recoil target pistol.
 
Sort of related to the topic.. I conceal an all stainless steel Colt commander in 45. I have smaller guns for different occasions but I always go back to my comfortable commander. Ironic since it's heavy.

I like my LW in .45 but either an all steel Combat Commander or LW is number one on my wish list!

"...excellent, low recoil target pistol..." That'd be a .45 ACP 1911A1(that weighs 39 ounces. Same as a 9mm 1911A1.) using cast 230 grain bullets with Bullseye. The felt recoil isn't any different in 9mm. Muzzle blast seems more in 9mm than .45 though. Velocity and barrel length matters.

I have a buddy who had a carry (4 inch barrel) 9mm sti tactical a while ago. It shot nicely and the felt recoil was minimal imo. And that was an alluminium frame. I say get one as a gun you train with so you don't beat on your carry gun [emoji13]. Plus multiple 1911s is never a bad thing.

I have the Springfield Armory Loaded 1911 in 9mm. It is too big and heavy for me to carry concealed, especially since it only holds 9 rounds. It is a joy to shoot with its short, light single action trigger and extra weight, but that’s less rounds than my sub-compact Springfield Hellcat. The only time I would prefer a big ole heavy 1911 is if I was out of ammo. I’m sure the big ole heavy 1911 would be far better for pistol whipping someone. LOL

Full size, steel? No. They do shoot nice though I don't find them all that flatter shooting over aluminum 1911s in 9mm.

Lightweight frames, IMO, is where the 9mm 1911 is great. Commander, bobtail or CCO hives a nice flat profile, light, excellent shooter than still gets 10+1 or 9+1 (how I carried the CCO before I went to the EDC X9). Conceals well, shoots great.

There was never an excuse for a full size all steel 1911A1 in 9mm.

or so some folks will tell you. I can't say they are right, and I won't say they are wrong, but there's been talk.....

Friend of mine has a 9mm 1911A1, couple of them if I remember right. Commander size. I think one is the alloy frame, too...

Carry what makes you happy. Carry what you can use. If someone else tells you "its too big" or "its too heavy" simply face them squarely and ask them, "Are YOU carrying it??" .....

Speaking as someone who has been shooting 1911s since 1967 and whose favorite 1911 happens to be a 9mm Combat Commander ... I most vehemently disagree that felt recoil isn't any different. Shooting factory ammo (Winchester white box, for example), there is a VERY perceptible difference in felt recoil. Compared to a .45, the 9mm Combat Commander feels more like shooting a .22.

However, I recognize that things such as felt/perceived recoil are subjective.
 
Sure-all steel 5" in both 9 and 45, all steel commander length in 45, and aluminum framed EMP in 9. Since I mostly carry in shoulder holsters, the weight isn't a huge deal.

The EMP undoubtedly carries better, but the steel 5" 9 is like shooting a .22.

I would have to agree that the 9mm shoots softer than the .45 ACP in the 1911. I have the Springfield Armory Loaded in 9mm and a Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special in .45 ACP. The 9mm spring rate is softer and shoots flatter than the .45.
 
If someone can't feel the difference in the recoil between a 9mm and a .45, they've got nerve damage in their shooting hand. I have a full size, all-steel 1911 in 9mm and it is a very soft shooter. But I don't carry it. It's strictly a range toy. I do have a lightweight Commander-sized 9mm that I have carried in the past. It's also a soft shooter and it's, well, it's a 1911 with all the great ergonomics, sweet trigger, etc. 'Nuff said.
 
I carry a 9mm 1911 Ruger LWT CMD. Great carry gun. Doesn't seem to weigh any more really than my S&W M&P9C 2.0 (try to say that three times fast). It might be lighter.

Looking for a .38 super now.
 
Star Super Model B . I think there's a market for single stack full/ service size 9mm pistols. A modern polymer frame with striker would be nice. 17 shot guns are just too fat for my hand. I like Stars, Beretta 1951's, and a Tokarev 9mm I have. But the same idea in a modern style pistol I think would sell.
