Anyone own a customised SP 101?

As you guys probably know from my previous posts I own A SP 101 that I'm looking to get ported and maybe some other things. I would like to see some pics of customized SP 101's. Please include who did the work. I am also interested in seeing some work done by Magnaport. They have pics of their porting on their site but they also offer a bunch of other stuff and they have no pics. Skeltonized hammers and trigger gaurds, jeweled triggers and hammers. Also what can I expect from a trigger job on the SP? I carry often and would like to keep the D/A pull heavy, but I would not mind the action to be smoother and the S/A pull could be lighter. Anyway what have you guys done and how did it turn out?

For Whatever It Is Worth

Will,

Please consider carefully whether you need the porting job, regardless of who would do it. Over the years, I have owned a few Magnaported guns and shot one that had the Keeper porting system. The muzzle blast and flash sight picture are magnified substantially. Obviously, neither are desirable especially at night. I couldn't wait to get rid of each one and have no regrets. I have talked to Ravenswolf, who regularly haunted this forum and the Rugerforum.com, where he mentions a custom smith that does phenominal work on SP's, including the addition of S&W sights. Like all of us, I am sure he is a very busy man, but one day he promises to post some pictures. Beyond all of the other "customizing touches", just a good trigger job will go a very long way. And, of course, lots of trigger time.

I've got a .32 Magnum SP101 that has had Jack Wiegand's "Tame The Beast" package done to it...no, I didn't HAVE it done, the pistol, bought "Second Hand", came like that! The .32 Mag doesn't really need the porting, at least in an all-steel gun, IMHO, but the action is WONDERFUL!!! It has been rendered DAO, with a spurless hammer, and the DAO triggerpull is around 8 & 3/4 lbs...has been 100% reliable with Federal .32 Mag ammo, Georgia Arms .32 Mag and .32 S&W Long ammo AND Remington .32 S&W Longs...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED....mikey357

I have one. It's got a trigger job that was a huge improvement. I recently sent it back to Ruger to correct the improperly installed barrel (angled a bit to the right) and they wouldn't touch it until I authorized returning the trigger, ect. to factory stock condition. I immediately called them to say please forget it and just return the gun. It arrived a few days ago with scratches on the frame (that weren't there before I sent it in) and a significant click in the trigger. The service manager won't come to the phone or return my call. Nice ****** job, Ruger. I'm trading this POS in for credit towards a DSA rifle and may get a S&W Model 60 or some **** like that. ****-****.

I have a .357 2 1/4" bbl. one. As noted above my barrel was canted but to the left. It drove me nuts so it is at the 'smith now getting straightened out and a Ashley Big Dot front sight put on. The gun previously was tuned by Teddy Jacobson and the cylinder chamfered for speedloader use. It currently is getting a high polished combat type trigger with the sharp edges removed. After tuning the action was 9 lb. double action (it had 16 pound double action before). I put in the Wolff 9 lb. mainspring and the double action is about 8.5 lb (it does not have a single action). So far, it has fired everything I have run through it including Blazer, Corbon mag ammo, Winchester mag ammo and Remington mag. I would guess if it had a single action it could be set at 3 lbs. or slightly less based upon my other Rugers.

I was happy with Teddy Jacobson's work. Haven't seen the current work (it is being done by Alan Tanaka) but he has done other work on my S&W's that was great. Don't have a digital camera or I'd post pictures when I get the gun back.
