Anyone own a Beretta 'Combat' Pistol?

I am considering a Beretta 96 "Combat Short" or "Stock" model (.40calS&W), mainly for IPSC Production competition use. The 'Combat'& 'Stock' models have a frame-mounted safety, which will ease the transition from a 1911 if shooting both Limited and Production on the same day/weekend.
Does anyone either own one, or have any experience with one?
Oh, BTW...while I would usually welome any and all ideas, I'm not interested in the "Buy a Glock/SIG/USP/Ruger/CZ instead" reply right now, thanks. :D

Have you seen one? Beretta USA told me that it is not available, though I asked about the 9mm. Beretta USA: 800-636-3420.

Cawdor:
Yes...Italian Sporting Goods in Vancouver, British Columbia have them...$799 Canadian.
That's for the "Stock" model. This model would be allowed in the IPSC Production Division, because it's Single/Double Action. I like them because I've always wanted a Beretta, and these have the frame mounted safety, the heavier Brigadier slide, and a few other 'goodies'.
That's curious..I wonder if they are not sold in the US? That wouldn't make any sense, but what does these days.

Mike:
I checked Beretta USA's 2000 price list. The 96 Combat is listed; the rest of the Combat/Stock models are not. By the way, list price for the 96 Combat is $1,700 U.S.

Cawdor:
$1700 US for the Combat? Cripes...that's $2500 Canadian.
I didn't realize that the 'Combat' models were SA only...therefore they are disqualified from the IPSC Production Division, so it'll have to be the "Stock" model..that's the one that's $799 Canadian. Oh well..it still has the frame-mounted safety, which still makes it attractive.
Thanks for the info..much appreciated.

A new Beretta with a frame mounted safety? I gotta look into this.

The slide mounted safety wasn't enough to keep me from buying the first .45 made by Beretta (Cougar 8045) but it has kept me from buying a model 92 since I have a Taurus PT-92 which is virtually the same pistol with the safety in the proper place.

Thanks for the heads up!

Joe:
The Beretta 92/96/98 Combat series of guns certainly caught my interest because of the frame mounted safety, particularly the Combat Short models. They are all SA guns, except for the 'Stock' model, which is based on the Combat models, but has fixed sights and is minus some of the goodies...and much cheaper.<g>
I believe that Beretta have them on their website..I don't have the URL handy, but I'm sure using your search you can find the website.
The Combats are really nice looking guns, too..

I'm not interested in a buy....message right now...

Well, you're going to get it anyways.

Buy another, older, Smith & Wesson revolver!

The Canadian cold must be slowing your mental processes down, Canuckboy... :)

Chances are he knows how to use it.
