Anyone looking for one of these?

I just sort of stumbled across a 5" S&W M27, nickel, NIB, for sale at http://www.checkpointcharlies.com/showproduct.aspx?Productid=911&categoryid=11 for $599. No pics posted, but I know Charlie very well, and I have no doubts the gun will be exactly as he says it is. As 27s go, that configuration is pretty much my personal dream gun, but no way I can swing that kind of money any time soon. So, maybe someone here wants to give it a loving home. I'm...

If you check around...

I'd like to see hem cheaper myself, but even the more common 4" and 6" blued 27s are priced from $450 and up in 95% or better condition. The 5" is considerably rarer, esp. in nickel. $600 NIB certainly isn't a steal, but I wouldn't call it overpriced. There is currently 1 just like it (NIB, presentation case, 5" nickel) on Gunsamerica for $895, which really is overpriced, but I don't think you'll find this same gun much cheaper anywhere, unless you get lucky and find someone who really doesn't know what they're selling you. Plus, I got a hunch we're going to see the prices continue to rise fast on older Smiths, particularly on really cherry specimens of the more desireable models.

I kinda wish I had some cash to invest right now; I bet the price on that gun will be shocking in 5 years. Of course, a major problem would be avoiding the temptation to shoot it.

Now, why exactly did I sell that 6" nickel 27 I bought in 1978 for $295? That was sorta stupid.....

That would be rather high around here but they're going up fast in price.
I found a 50th year anniversary M-27 in 5 inch with the wood box for $475 last summer and a nickle 6 inch a couple months ago for $300.
Both now live in my safe and the first is still unfired. I doubt many deals like those will come along again but I'll still be looking.
