Anyone load Xtreme 9mm

I bought 500 copper plated hollow points in 115gr 9mm. I loaded about 150 of them recently and had some issues getting a good crimp on the bullet. I'm a little confused as to where/how I should be getting a good crimp.

I'm using a Lee hand press with the carbide seating/crimping die.

Good crimp? You mean you have bullet setting back when you chamber the round?

The bullet sometimes will be able to spin in the case. Also, sometimes it will fail to chamber and rip the bullet from the case when it gets stuck.

I don't crimp 9mm UNLESS I've over expanded the case. Then the crimp die brings it back to size, usually. Otherwise there is more than enough tension in the case mouth to hold the bullet in place.

I "think" you have over expanded your cases. Your bullet should be able to enter the mouth of the case, barely and the press does the rest of the work for you. I would re-set your expanding die and start again, after reading the instructions for it's setup.

Be safe.

I'll second Mr. Glazer's opinion. X-Treme bullets have worked very well for me, and they get consistently good reviews. Your crimp die should just iron out the flare, and really should have little to no work to do if your flaring and seating dies are adjusted correctly. You want to flare just barely enough to accept the bullet and without damaging it.

I've had that problem with Rem brass with both plated and jacketd bullets. Not knowing anything other than the bullets he is using; brass or insufficient sizing is my bet.

Thanks for your information guys. You are probably right about over expanding the cases. I don't have a ton of reloading experience. I will have to go back and reset my expander die.

If your using the Lee FCD, it may be under sizing the bullet so that the case springback is more than the bullet, leaving it loose in the case. Although I've never had this problem some people have. I think I got lucky and my FCD is sized a little larger than some.

Also, sometimes it will fail to chamber and rip the bullet from the case when it gets stuck.

First of all, your bullet (completed round) is set too long. The bullet is engaging the lands if it is ripping the bullet from the case.

No...you are using a hand press with a carbide SIZING die. The seating die is steel.

Second.....check the setting on your SIZING die. It should be bottomed out when your press is closed.

Third....what make of BRASS is showing the problem? Was it once fired? Range pick ups? Do you even know?

I like to see a ridge where the base of the bullet is wedged in the case. Plated bullets don't do this like jacketed bullets do but I've not had an issue with plated bullets being "loose" in the case.
Either the bullets are undersize, the cases are insufficiently sized, the mouth is excessively flared, or the case bullet combination is incompatible.
