Anyone Know Where I Can Find An HK Armorer for my HK USP .40C?

I just got my new HK USP .40 Compact the other day. By the way, I know this is a separate issue, but when did HK start putting cheesy integral locks on their handguns. I about fell over when I opened the case and was greeted with a big sticker on the grip which read "Gun is locked!!!Refer to back cover of owner's manual." Anyway, back to the issue at hand. The gun is currently a Variant 1 (decocker and safety on the left side of the frame). However, I want to convert it to a Variant 3 (basically elliminate the manual safety) for CC. Anyone have any info on where to find an HK armorer? Price for the conversion? Also, does anyone know if they replace the selector switch with a new one that does not have "F" and "S" on it? I assume that if I have to ship the gun somewhere for the conversion, that I only have to send the frame. Is that correct? Any help on this matter would be appreciated.

It might help a little if you mentioned where you live. The journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step.

What exactly does it mean to get rid of the manual safety? From what I glean from H&K, it doesn't mean removing the safety lever.

I also own an H&K and am always looking for improvements.

Therapydude,

Not to be smart or anything, but have you tried HK? I'm pretty sure they can do it, since they also do warranty work (though you would expect it to be rare with HK). BTW, are you saying that HK is now in the SW elitist club and is putting integral locks on all their civilian firearms, or was that simply a variant you received?

I think that it's not a pemanent lock, but something they put in the gun to prevent the slide from being moved during transport, display, etc. It can be removed. Mine wasn't shipped with one, so I'm not sure, but I hadn't heard about integral locks being put into H&Ks before.

There was an integral lock on my USP. It locks the trigger, slide, and hammer. The "Key" is so simplistic that a pair of needle-nosed pliers could be substituted, but with that lock on, the gun ain't gonna fire. The only safer condition the gun could be in is disassembled.

IIRC, the Lock Out system started shipping in Oct 99. I like it. Sooner or later everybody is gonna have something like it?

With a little muscle you can force the slide back, breaking the lock and damaging the gun. It will even fire after that, but not very reliably. HK, dealers, and owners discovered this when HK shipped the first ones w/o warning and didn't mark the guns conspicuously enough for some Nimrods.

If you don't want the lock engaged, you can turn it off and leave it off.

HK can and will do the job for about $25, but it will take about 4-6 weeks.

I had my Tactical converted to variant 2 by Burford Arms in Irving TX. $40 plus s/h. I sent it out Monday and had the gun back in my hands Saturday. I would assume that the conversion to variant 3 would be about the same money and time. I don't know if they will cahnge the lever so the "s" on it.

You do not have to ship the whole gun, but since ATF considers the frame the "gun" it really doesn't matter. Shipping cost me about $30 each way with $1000 insurance. It has to go UPS overnight air. If interested call and speak with Charles. Only speak to him if you can help it. http://www.burfordarms.com/
Hope this helps
