Anyone know if this is for real?

SUMMARY: Gang members in California and Florida have been converting Glock pistols into FULLY-AUTOMATIC firing weapons.

DETAILS: Gang members in Florida and California have been converting Glock pistols to have fully automatic firing capabilities. In regions of California, police are treating any Glock they encounter as a fully automatic firing weapon.

Conversion is fast and simple requiring no technical expertise. The Glock part involved is the 'slide cover plate.' The original Glock slide cover plate is made of polymer but the bootleg piece is made of steel. By simply switching these plates, which takes less than 15 seconds to do, the conversion is complete.

On the modified Glock the polymer edge of the trigger housing mechanism, which sits forward of the cover plate, has to be partially cut away. It is apparent without having to remove the slide plate that a significant amount of material has been cut away, leaving a large void visible through the notch.

Finding a Glock modified in this manner should be considered a clear indication that the weapon has been altered to function in a fully automatic mode.

Assume all gangs across the country are aware of this simple conversion band approach with extreme caution.

Tinkerers, both malignant and harmless, have been converting semi-autos to full autos since the beginning of time. There is nothing new under the sun.

However, I am wondering why anyone would do this to a pistol. Unless you get lucky, the only real ways to kill someone with a pistol are to either aim carefully and kill by precision, or to simply drown the opponent in a hail of lead. But a pistol, even the largest Glocks, do not have the mags (that I know of) to take option #2, and the uncontrollability of full-auto makes Option #1 very hard. Are they doing it just to have a "machine gun" ?

It is real. You can do the same with a 1911 also. The open slide and a mis-timed ignition could result in a KB though. I saw pictures of one Glock in a training bulletin about 6 months ago.

Tiny package, lots of noise and flash, can be lethal, intimidating if ya are looking down the bore (even if held sideways by some moron who knowns nothing about shooting except to pull the trigger and the "gat" goes "bang.")... What's a scumbucket gangbanger not to love?

Well, I suppose if they hold it "gansta style" then the muzzle climb would move the hail of bullets to the side.

I hope you don't seriously believe this. Otherwise how do you explain driveby shootings striking victims with just one or two shots and the victims dying.

Why do it with a pistol? Because it does generate a hail of lead, just like with a submachinegun, only in a smaller package.

I believe you can buy the selector switch thingy commercially that goes on the back of the slide (where the hammer would be on an auto with a hammer). I saw one fired with a 30 round magazine....No "tinkering" involved if you have the part....

Answer #1: The shooters got lucky, and Murphy's Law was only in effect for the victim.

Answer #2: The shooters are very good shots.

Because it does generate a hail of lead, just like with a submachinegun, only in a smaller package.
My point was that a pistol magazine is not nearly as large as a submachinegun magazine, so the "hail" will be much shorter, and less effective, due to the increased uncontrolability of full-auto fire from a pistol.

Well Twycross, what can I say? No wait, I got it. Check your history on machine pistols. Check your history on Glock and Glock magazines. You can get 30 round magazines made originally for this very purpose of being a machine pistol. Beretta had their version of the 92 as the 93R that held a 20 round magazine. Also, check your history on pistol ballistics. Your notion that a pistol caliber only kills if by precision shooting, luck, or a hail of lead is either over simplified to explain the situation, or so generalized that it also explains other calibers as well.

Also, I don't think you actually know what Murphy's Law is. What you are referring to is Finagle's Law of Dynamic Negatives - “Anything that can go wrong, will”.

Murphy's Law states “If there are two or more ways to do something, and one of those ways can result in a catastrophe, then someone will do it.”

You see, Edward A. Murphy, Jr. was one of McDonnell-Douglas's test engineers on the rocket-sled experiments that were done by the U.S. Air Force in 1949 to test human acceleration tolerances (USAF project MX981). One experiment involved a set of 16 accelerometers mounted to different parts of the subject's body. There were two ways each sensor could be glued to its mount, and somebody methodically installed all 16 in a replacement set the wrong way around. Murphy then made the original form of his pronouncement, which the test subject (Major John Paul Stapp) mis-quoted (apparently in the more general form “Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong)” at a news conference a few days later.

You guys remember the big Hellfire trigger on the Tec-9 scare? This story is probably just more hyped-up anti gun sensationalism written by an over zealous reporter who heard rumors that ONE gang member has done illegal Glock machinepistol conversion.

Double Naught Spy,
Thanks for the info. I admitt that that a pistol can be transformed into a machine-pistol, and thanks for telling me of the availability of hi-capacity mags. I know that glocks could hold 15 or 16 9mm, but I did not know about the 30+ rounders.

I still believe that pistols are not powerfull enough to just "spray and pray". They must be aimed at a specific target or vital organ to be really effective. Before you remind me of all the machinegun casualties of WW1, the massive death counts were inflicted by guns shooting rifle cartridges, at 600 rpm, with virtually unlimited ammo. These are not features of a modified Glock.

And I do know about Finagle's Law of Dymanic Negatives. But to my knowledge, it is not commonly known, and I was trying to err on the side of being understood.

No sensible people fire 15 round bursts from a smg and making it a 30 burst do not really make a lot more deadly

if the ROF is fast enough there will definetly be a good 2/3. round hit probability

FYI PRAY AND SPRAY DO NOT WORK even with a 1000 round MG

A auto glock would have a ROF more like 1000 1200 RPM (BRAAAAT) :D

The "switch" or other full-auto "kits" are for gang bangers and idiots. They destroy the Glock they are used on. Sure, it's full-auto, but that's all it is. One pull and it runs until slide lock, even if you let go of the trigger. The G18 is actually built different inside than other Glocks.

All I read was what was posted, but this makes me wonder. It sounds like it was written by somebody who knows nothing of guns and is trying to make an anti gun point.

How do you treat someone different with a full auto pistol than with a semi-auto pistol? Why just in nondescript regions of California? (Couldn't be San Francisco, of course -- with their gun laws gun violence is TOTALLY a thing of the PAST!)

"Well Rookie, that might be a full auto glock, so if he points it at your head from less than 2 feet away you better duck. I remember the good old days when you didn't have to worry about glocks killing you because they weren't full auto."

I have to agree with TheeBadOne Probably a hack job. This is probably going to help stop violence by either the gun blowing up and the dumb:)ss loosing his hand or the gun going off while it is in his waistband. Either way, I think the problem will solve itself. Just have to keep the anti's from screaming. OMFG, th3y h4v3 the 1337 fu11 4ut0 g10ck. w3 4r3 a11 g0ing 2 d13. B4n a11 th3 gun5. :p

/You are truly a geek if you can read the above sentence.
