Dad left a bunch...they're .38 spl Tracer's- National co. Forgive my ignorance, I realize I'm a bit of an "intruder", 'cause I'm not a shooter or collector. Dad was, though, and left me with quite a stash. Some of it I got sorted out(WWI & II stuff, and some Vietnam auto's), but still have boxes of this ammo that doesn't fit with the rest. It's no where near as old, yet the shells look longer than most .38's I've seen.

Is there any way you can post a picture, including the headstamp? these have been made for both the military and for commercial sales.

National made (or had made) special purpose ammo for the military and law enforcement. Some of it was made using common cartridge case machinery for reasons of cost, but the cases were made longer so they wouldn't work in normal guns. Even if they fit, tracers should not be fired because the trace residue is usually abrasive and hard on the barrel.
