Guys,

Im new, but ive read a lot of very helpful reviews, maybe one of you guys here have used or own the new Specops stock, any comments? In particular, im looking to put it on a Remi 870.

After taking a look at the site and short vid clip, im very very interested in picking one up, just wanted to see if there was any feedback to justify the purchase :D

thanx in advance!

If you can wait until next Wednesday or Thursday, I will be putting slugs through a 870 with the SpecOps stock. Since I will be putting a fair amount of slugs through my 870, I am also considering swapping out the butt pad for a Limbsaver. I will be looking into that today.

Dangaa, there are a couple of reviews just posted recently by members of this board. I have been shooting pistols, mainly bullseye and action for years. I am new to shotguns and have been working on form, mounting, dry firing and getting used to my 870 shotgun. Since everywhere I read it seems that slugs cause people disscomfort or pain I have decided to add a Limbsaver recoil pad to the mix of the SpecOps stock and VangComp ported barrel for maximum recoil control. I want to be able to shoot any round through my shotgun and not worry and think about recoil.

Limbsaver's website is: www.limbsaver.com

As a side note, the only Limbsaver recoil pad that will fit the Knoxx SpecOps stock is the "Large Grind to Fit pad". I purchased one online today. Once I get it on the SpecOps stock I plan to take it to the range with slugs. I will post my thoughts and findings then.

The sight is a ATN Ultra Digital Reflex Sight. The scope mount is a Leopold QI mount. With this setup I can use the bead/iron sights or the reflex optics sight. I really like the reflex sight, the sight picture and target aquisition is lightning quick. The ATN Ultra Digital allows me to change the rectical via a push of a button. Basically one plane (instead of two plane - lining up back and front sights) aiming.

Check it out, here is the link: http://www.atncorp.com/DayOptics/ReflexSights/ATNUltraSightDigital

Hi CaCrusin. I plan to try both ways. The shape of the Limbsaver fits my shoulder cup better and is more comfortable. I have a Limbsaver on a Scattergun Tech M4 style stock. I figure it cannot hurt, only help, will find out soon enough.

I do have a question. Mike your tech, mentioned a comb riser for the SpecOps stock designed for optics mounted guns. Any update as to availability of pics or when available for sale? Pricing? I look forward to hearing back with more info on this.

Thanks,

Hey CaCrusin,

Everyone talks about the specialops stock. How's the compstock in comparison? I tend to go for the more traditional look. And is the compstock an exact replacement, size wise, to the original buttstock?

The project Mike spoke about is progressing nicely. I can't say more.

The Compstock is extremely effective. It is ideal for those who prefer a traditional look. The SpecOps is hot right now and the adjustable length-of-pull feature is great for those with more than one shooter using the gun.

Matchgrade, the forend on my 870 is a Hogue Overmolded forend and it will fit any Remington 870 model. Knoxx sells it seperately, that is where I picked it up from. I like the feel of it better then the synthetic or wood forends. I have several forends made of wood and synthetic at home and do prefer the Hogue. Pachmayr also sells a tactical rubber forend called vindicator.

CDC< how is your ATN sight??? The one I had for my AR would not work properly. The reticle would change as well as the brightness. Considering a 12 ga has a bit more ooomph then an AR I was wondering how yours holds up to the recoil???? Did I just get an example that slipped pase QC or is it because I purchased it from a place the well... it was an online source that... the name of it says it all I guess. I was thinking that the place I got it from purchased it as a return already??? I was wondering because I was thinking that perhaps I should give it another try??? To the credit of the company I bought from they did take the return with no hassels what so ever.

Aim straight and have fun

Jon, I baught the ATN Ultra Digital from a friend that had the sight on a AR for a couple of months. The sight worked fine and I negotiated, actually talked him into selling it to me. ATN advertises that the sight is designed and suitable for shotgun use. Aside from dryfiring the 870 about 500-600 times I have not shot it yet. I am still waiting for my selection of slugs to arrive by mail, which will be in a couple of days. I will be taking the 870 and firing hopefully a good amount of slugs through it this upcoming Wednesday. I will report back after shooting the 870.

I also just fitted a Limbsaver to the SpecOps stock and am extremely curious as to how my whole setup will feel/shoot slugs. Will report back with findings...

got the specops and the forend both from knoxx. i don't see a reason to have the limbsaver. i've only been into shotguns for about 6 months. not a fan of recoil :barf: in my early days of owning it i took it to the range shot 25 shells of #8 then shot 5 shots of 00 buck then went to 2 3/4 slugs about 10. near the end i was in some pain my shoulder was red. i got my specops and forend went out on a boar hunt. i shot 3"magnum slugs. it was cake. recoil was less then the #8 with the factory stock. since then i've shot up all my 3" slugs and boxes of 2 3/4 ,00 bck no problem. i will say install was a pita.had to use an allen wrench and vice grips to get enough leverage to tighten it.

Well for $33 and two hours to hand fit, I wanted to see how the Limbsaver felt. Yesterday I fitted and installed the Limbsaver and the fit and feel is much better for me. Maybe it is the shape, slight extra thickness of the Limbsaver (changing the LOP), the softer feel, not sure. When mounting it seems quicker, smoother and more comfortable to me. If the Limbsaver helps with the recoil absorption the better, and logically it should.

I now have a decent assortment of slugs to try out. Very curious as to how the gun shoots and feels on wednesday when I take it out to the range.
