Im just getting started in shooting and Im looking to find a good gun range in my area.

I have yet to visit any yet and was hoping to find a local that could give some info on locations.

Thank you,

Welcome to TFL. I notice from your profile that you work in tech support in Beaverton. Do you work for Stream by any chance?

I shoot at the Public Safety Training Center in Clackamas off of 82nd avenue. It is right by Washington Square and Costco. It's an indoor range.

$99 per year/no lane fees. You need to buy the ammo you shoot at their armory, but prices are reasonable (They only use clean fire, and have one of the best environmental ratings in the country). You can rent anything from a .22 to a MP5. Friendly armorers and range officers. Classes and leagues. Three years old, and popular with LEO's (Portland P.D. trains there, and the sheriff's station is next door). Free handgun rentals Sunday and Monday, $6 to $8 other days.

If you want, I'll meet you there and take you through as a guest ($9 lane fee). Email me if interested.

If you want to contact them, call 503-650-6677.

Nice to see another "Oregonian" on the board. I live in Eugene, shoot at Barron's Den. Don't know much about the Portland Area. But since your up that way.. vote that ginny bi!ch out of office.

Longshot: Oh, BTW, thanks for the Oregon book on laws. I'm slow, but I get around to things sooner or later. You never did reply to my "Oregon TFL'ers" thread. Still getting to know the State and area. Keep in Touch.

English Pit in Vancouver, WA (just across the river) is my usual shooting site. It's a county-run park (shocking, eh?) with a handgun range and two rifle ranges (one .22 only). It's cheaper than The Place To Shoot, which only allows pistols anyhow.

USP45usp,

Glad you got the book.

I guess I missed the thread about Oregon TFL'rs. I was out of town for awhile...unfortunately it was San Francisco.

You need a strong stomach to talk politics down there, man. The nicest compliment I received was "Right Wing Mother*&%$^#@. I guess they don't like being confused with the facts. I even got to defend the second amendment when Chuck Heston's NRA infomercial came on..three leftists against yours truly. They just could not believe that I had so many facts and numbers to throw at them. They questioned my sources and my integrity over and over.

The best spar I had is when a guy told me that I should be responsible for any homicides committed with my gun if it was stolen. I replied that he therefore should be equally responsible for any hit and run murders committed with his car if it was stolen. His face went blank, and he walked out of the room for a minute because he was so flustered.

Anyway, take it easy, and email me when you decide to come up north. Note the new email address in my profile.

Take care,

Longshot

Yes, it's good to see another shooter from the liberal state of Orygun. :-)

Like Al, I live in Vancouver, but I usually frequent the Clark Rifles range NorthEast of town. It's probably 20 minutes North of the Columbia river off of I-205.

The Range Officers are a pretty good bunch of people and guests are welcome for $7 per day with no annual fees. They have a 50 yard pistol/rimfire range, a 100 yard rifle range and a 100/200/300 yard rifle range. All ranges are covered, and safety is a primary issue for everyone there.

Many of our friends join my wife and I for Saturday afternoons at the range. This year has been unusually busy for us so we haven't gone in a while.

Email me if you would like to get together some time. I recently got in contact with USP45usp, and we should be getting together some time soon as well. Hey! How about an (unofficial) OR/WA TFL Range Day? Any other takers?? Let me know.

I'm a soph. in Computer Engineering at OSU, and while I was at boot camp over the summer my parents moved to Colorado, removing my access to firearms, so I would also be interested in learning about the ranges in the area. Keep me informed of what's going on in the area.

Thanks,

I, too, am glad to see some other members from Oregon. I've been around here awhile and thought there might not be any gun owners with computers in Oregon. :)

As an aside to the discussion of ranges, would any of you be interested in a Defensive Pistol class by Insights Training Center in November? It will be held at The Place To Shoot on a Sat. & Sun. and costs $200. They had to cancel the early summer class due to lack of applicants. That was a MAJOR bummer. If you haven't heard of Insights, or are interested in course specifics, check them out at www.insightstraining.com

If you're not a little upset with the way the world is going, you're not paying attention.

Wow, there are a lot of locals.

"The Place to Shoot" is the only indoor range I've really been to around here but I'm going to look into the "Tri-County Gun Club" this next Wednesday and see if it's worth joining.

Mostly my buddy and I go out to the national forest. We frequent a spot out toward Tillamook. It's a long drive, but we've got a lot more freedom in our shooting. Plus it's free.
