I just joined this site today. It sure is a big site.

Live in Australia. Having 500 Jeffrey made.

At different times have owned two 460s, three 458s, two 378s, one 416 Wby, one 416 Rem and one 338/378 (when they were wildcat) and have owned about 50 375s. Probably had as many 270s as 375s

My pet hate is 338 Winchester shooters. They were never able to make a decision. Sort of like a big 308 :D :D

Welcome aboard Mike375! Yes there are plenty of bogbore shooters here. Recently had several discussions on same. Use the search function near the top of the page in the Rifles section and use most any bigbore caliber as the search word.
Also some bigbore talk goes on occassionally in Cowboy area, though it tends toward the historic calibers (.45/70 etc).

Yes 375 H&H Magnum.

I am thinking of getting a bigger bore for fun maybe 458 Winchester Magnum.

What I really would like is a .50 BMG Barrett Auto Cannon but they are a bit pricy!

Maybe I can build a single shot .50 BMG instead.

I just recently moved out of the .223 poodle shooter ranks and into the 30s. Now I want even bigger holes. A .338 so I can use the 250 & 300gr SMKs and the .416 Rigby a local shop has.

Disclaimer, I left the 12gauge out of it because this is after all the Art of the Rifle.

Mike, I agree that the 338 Win is a poon gun, fit only for an indecisive wannabe. Big bore starts at 375 H&H and moves up to 458 Win Mag and beyond, if you like the Weatherby calibers, or foreign stuff. I had two each 375 and 458 Model 70s.

Wow. What did you do with 50 375s? That must be some story, or you got some real gun jones! :>

Welcome aboard and tell us about dem big bores!

All those 375s over the years is quite simple. 375 and 270 have been my basic calibers. I like to try different rifles and when I do they are often 375 or 270. The majority have been Model 70s, and several Rem 700s, Sakos, BRNO and one Wby Mark V. Also some rebarreld with match grade barrels.

Presently I have three Model 70 Stainless in 375, two in 270 and one in 7mm Rem.

I am gradually getting into big bore rifles. I have a Ruger #1H that was in .458 win mag that I had rechambered out to .460 Weatherby. My normal load pushes a 500 gr. .45 cal bullet out at 2,600 fps. Quite a thumper when you shoot it but it is great fun and really hits hard when you hit something with it. I want to get a big bore bolt gun next, mabey build something on those big CZ .416 rigby actions?

Mike375 and everybody,

I enjoy this topic and love to shoot the "Thumpers". I don't have an African caliber right now, but I sure have a soft spot for the 375 and 458. Love that long model 70 Action. There is just nothing like feeling the bolt hit the bolt stop as I rack another shell into 'er!

The 460 Weatherby is really good for expeditions in Tyrannosaurus country!

I have a .375 Magnum Winchester Model 70 which I am quite fond of. It is the largest caliber modern rifle I own, but every now and then I get an urge to get a .416 Rigby.

I too have always liked the bigbores. I have a 375HHMag in a Rem. Classic. I have also owned a few 45/70s and a 444Marlin.I still have a 45/70 Marlin and one of the new Win 1886 Extra lightweights. I have a Winchester Mod 95 I am thinking about rebarreling to 375Hawk,However I am torn between that and just going with a 35Whelen.In some ways the Whelen makes more since for me, but what has that got to do with it anyway? I probably will never go to Africa but of the rifles I have at this time, That 375 is my choice for elk and I even deer hunt with it some too.As long as I own that 375 I personally don't see a need for a 300mag or a 338 for that matter.

Well, right now only have two .375's. A Ruger 1# and a Ruger 77 in .375x338 Mag. Don't know the wildcat. It duplicates the H#H in a standard length action.
I had a .458 Mag. for a while, but I sold it to a good friend of mine that wanted it real bad. A couple of 45-70's completes the list of largebore rifles right now, but I'm thinking of a .416 of some kind.
