I have seen some simple scope stands made from iron pipe and wood. Very simple, but very sturdy-looking!
Would anybody have plans they'd be willing to share?
Thanks.

are we talking spotting scope? if so why not just go to wally world and get a camera tripod stand. cheap and stable.

Yes sir, this would be a stand for a spotting scope.

The home-made stands I have seen have a single center "pole" which allows you to adjust all the way from offhand to seated and way down to prone, too.
The tripod-type stands don't allow you to drop the scope low enough for seated and prone usually...

clamps

When I'm near a bench, I use one of these - a bar clamp. They can be had up to 48" long - Jorgensen and Quick Grip are two brands. The bar can be up if I am seated at the bench or standing next to it. It can be pointed down when in the sitting or kneeling position or when shooting prone.

To attach the scope to the bar, I use one of these and position it wherever it needs to be.:

I imagine that it would be a simple matter to make a low wooden support base to which the long clamp could attach so as to use it while standing if no bench was available.

I don't have plans but have made several stands like you described. The hard part is finding a base. I shopped flea markets for old scope stands which were usually broken. Made new legs and added EMT tubing. Spotting scopes usually have a 1/4-20 tapped hole for mounting. You might need some weight at the bottom to insure stability unless the base legs are really wide. Watching a scope blow over in the wind sucks.
