Anyone have or seen new Autauga 32?

I've seen it. It is pretty small, and looks pretty solid. Lowest price I saw at a gunshow was $349.

Interesting that the article stated that FMJ ammo would void the warranty...shooting silvertips through it all the time would be pretty expensive.

They have been out for awhile. I got mine about a year ago. I like the gun and bought my son one for Christmas last year. $295 at Heritage Firearms in Austin, Tx.

They certainly HAVE been out for a while. I think they came out BEFORE the Guardian to compete with the Seecamp... it's just that NAA has a bigger name.

Ben, the gun was advertised back in 1993 or 1994. The first production of 500 pistols was around 1997 and they all got recalled for problems. Some people did not turn them back in. The Mk II actually began production around Nov 1998, mine is number 727 and was ordered in Feb 1999.

I just bought my 2nd Autauga last weekend. Got one for Christmas, only 100 or so rounds thru it so far but no problems at all. Trigger is supposed to be a bit lighter than the Guardian. It is also slightly lighter than the Guardian. I bought both of mine at Heritage Firearms in Austin for $299. Great price. The new issue of Gun World (4/00) has a good article on it.
If you get one, let us know how it performs. I haven't heard anything negative so far.
Jeff OTMG - you must live around here, you mentioned Heritage also.

I should add that the one I saw at an Atlanta gunshow for $349 was a Mk II model. I wonder if the cheaper ones at other shows were the older models...?

I would guess not as I paid $299 for a MKII last weekend & the same last Christmas. That amount of difference in the price isn't unusual. One place in town here wanted $595 for a new MKII!
I also have seen Kel-Tec P32s for $215, $249 & $269 around town.

My friend and shooting partner Rick Miller got one for testing and we did a fair amount of shooting with it. Ball ammo just won't work reliably through the piece. Sivertips and a JHP from Hornady worked well.

alamo - Yes, I live in Austin, but I am on a contract in Indianapolis, In. I MISS TEXAS, but at least my CHL is good here. The high dollar store was McBrides, right? He is probably trying to pawn them off as Seecamps.

Forseti - Of the 500 originals that were shipped, all were recalled by the factory. Most were returned, the few that were not are collectors items today and very expensive.

RoscoB - and everyone else with an Autauga. DO NOT SHOOT FMJ ammo in the gun. The FMJ loads have a longer bearing surface in the barrel which leads to excessive pressure. The Autauga is a straight blowback design and the excess pressure can cause the slide to unlock prematurely leading to a case rupture or hot gases being released. The springs are calibrated for JHP ammo. I use Speer Gold Dot or Federal.

McBride's is the Nagel's of Austin.
Nagel's is the McBride's of San Antonio.

I like Heritage and Cooks in Austin
and Champion's in SA.

Lots of TFL folks in the area it seems.
My friends went for P-32s though.

Jeff OTMG - you're right of course - McBrides. I bought a Kel-tec P32 there for $249. Kel-Tec is the ONLY mfg. they carry for a reasonable price.
I did buy a Seecamp there 1 & 1/2 years ago for $600, sold it to a friend that wanted it as a back-up to his other Seecamp. The Seecamp lovers will cringe at this but having owned both, there is little difference between the two. Yes, the Seecamp is a tad smaller & a tiny bit lighter but not enough to make any difference.

Glenn - did you go to Cook's last Friday or Saturday? I went friday at lunchtime. The Smith & Wesson rep. was there (per their newspaper advertisement) and he brought about a dozen S&Ws that you could shoot 6 rounds for $1.00 (total - including range). I shot one of the .38 airlites & the .40 Chiefs Special.

Missed it! Last Friday and Saturday, I was on my friend's ranch out in Rock Springs - past Thunder Ranch. We had 5 guys and enough guns that it looked like a gun show.

I beat the heck out of my shoulder firing 12 gauge slugs at a 100 yard target.

Made a great shot : I was shooting at a clay pigeon at a 100 yards with my 10/22 - iron sights. Most pigeons fell to me. But one sucker mocked me. I shot a touch to the left or right. So I took my Glock 26 and took aim.

Bang ! First shot and no pigeon! Quit when I was ahead.

We've wandered off the Autauga thread though.
I wish Cook's kept their CD-ROM - it was a hoot.
