Anyone Have Experience With Altamont Grips?

I don't like the grips on my new Super Blackhawk Bisely (in 44) - too orange in tone. Looking at walnut grips online with the Almont co. Anyone here with experience with this company's grips - quality, fit, ect.?

I had a set on a S&W 642 Airweight. The wood looks and feels great, but get some checkering, or it will slip out of your hand.

I own two Ruger SP101s that wear their snake skin textured rubber boot similar to the factory ones. One of which holds a set of their matching textured wood inserts. The fit is perfect and I couldn't be more pleased with their products all be it my experience is limited only to these examples.
Talk about reasonable prices comparatively too, plus I believe they make the current logo medallion checkered factory grips that come on some new Ruger firearms from the factory.

I have them on a Walther PPK/S, and a S&W J frame, and I love the fit and finish.
You can't beat the quality at those prices.

I put oversize Altamonts on my Single Seven, and I love them. They look and feel great and the price can't be beat. I want to put the same style on my Blackhawk Flattops, but they don't make them in oversize yet. They said maybe next year. Waiting impatiently... but I will buy from Altamont again. And again.

I put Altamont walnut grips on a Charles Daly HP and a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Convertible. I liked the feel and look much better than the factory grips. I put smooth grips on the Ruger and as I said I like it better but I think I might have liked some checkering even better. I won't hesitate to recommend Altamont or to buy from them again if the occasion arises.

I have Altamonts on a GP100, snake skin inserts in the old style rubber grip, some also on a Blackhawk Convertible and a Single Six. They are good to go

I use the Altamont boot grips exclusively on my S&W k-frames. Best I've ever tried, especially considering the low price.

I've had one pair of Altamont grips on a revolver, these on a Model 19. I didn't like them as they are acrylic impregnated, or stabilized, as some call them. I don't like the feel of them, and they are similar to the factory Ruger grips, and may supply them.

While mine were "rosewood" they were actually birch stained rosewood. And they were laminated. My own preference is to pay more and get real hardwood, oil finished grips. At the time, Altamont refused to make me any solid, oil finished grips.

Paid the money and went with Cary Chapman's grips for my guns.

I have Altamont grips on my 19-3, Walnut, checkered, with medallions.. Have a set of round to square conversion on my 460v in rosewood, checkered, and medallions.

Had a set on a Walther PPK/S I owned in the past.

I really like the fit and feel in the hand and they are pleasing to my eye. IMHO you will be hard pressed to find nicer grips for the same money.

Here is my 460 with the Altamonts.

Altamont's grips are mostly made of "Dymondwood", which is laminated birch, impregnated with phenolic resin. This is what makes them entirely waterproof and very strong. As well as not expensive.

I believe the only solid wood grips made by Altamont are reproductions of some factory grips (such as Smith & Wesson magnas, for example).

So, if you want "custom" solid wood grips, go someplace else. That's not what Altamont does, nor what they advertise.

I haven't used Altamont grips/stocks (unless they were on someone else's firearm), but I like what I see, even if they're phenolic resin impregnated whatever (not making fun, just can't recall the whole statement). I contacted them about availability for some of my revolvers, and they couldn't help me. But they were polite, and offered to notify me when they began to offer grips (stocks) for the revolver(s) I mentioned. For someone who has never done business with them, they were pretty nice, to me. I think they have the customer service mentality right.

I purchased a Walnut set for a P-38 from Altamont. P-38 grips have to be the most complicated grips to reproduce. The factory ones are bakelite/ plastic of some sort and were cast in a mould. The Altamont's were machined from walnut and are an amazing. They reproduce the P-38 grooved grips perfectly in a nice walnut. I went over them a little with 400 grit Wet-or-dry paper to clean up a few rough edges on the inside and in the grooves, and gave them a few coats of Tung Oil....Drop Dead Gorgeous ! And reasonably priced. I think I will go over to their site and check out what they have for a Ruger Blackhawk....those stag grips are awesome looking.
Highly recommend Altamont...
