Anyone have a newer Speer manual? Need .44 Mag 240-gr Speer Gold Dot and HS7 data.

If you feel like looking it up and posting the min, max charges, and velocity data using Hodgdon HS-7 powder, that'd be really great. :)

I have the newest speer manual but I don't see HS-7 listed at all. Isn't that powder discontinued some time ago?

Yes, it was discontinued, but my Speer #13 manual has HS7 listed under 240-gr FMJ. Unfortunately, this edition does not have Gold Dots data. I was hoping it can be found in #14. Hmmmmm...

Yeah #14 is what I have and I looked at other calibers as well and that powder is nowhere to be found in this one. Sorry

Thanks a lot for checking, I really appreciate it.

I sent an email to Speer, maybe they have some of the data I'm looking for.

In their 14th, Speer list the exact same powder charges for all of their 240 gr jacketed bullets in .44 mag. and the Gold Dot. The exception is the 240 gr FMJ-SWC which has a 1 gr less max. I know what this tells me.

In past articles by some gunwriters, and I am going back years, it was said that [WW571 = HS 7, and WW 540(also WW473)=HS 6]. Don't know for certain-- Just passing it along. I guess the 'grain of salt' thing applies?
I DO know for certain that when I was working up loads for the .45 SUPER- in'88- and went by DEAN GRENNELL's workings, [before he became too ill to finish development, and passed it along to TOM FERGUSON, who then passed it on ACE HINDMAN, in TEXAS] I loaded the same dose of W540 and W571 as I did HS 6 and HS 7 and the figures were within extreme spread parameters for either powder's(counterpart) alone.[I fired 10 shot strings with alternate powder lds. stacked in the mag] But that was just ME w/ MY SERIES 80 SS COLT, and in no way suggest that anyone do the same. BTW; Today's Super load data is nothing more than .45+P-if that- and the .460 ROWLAND is what the .45 SUPER was intended to be. I think the case ROWLAND case was lengthened to keep the ROWLAND from being chambered in guns NOT set up for the SUPER/ROWLAND pressures...GOOD MOVE.
I've taken up too much time/space; I hope this info helps.
