Anyone have a New Colt Concealed Carry?

I know it is not cool to buy Colt at this time.I was considering a Kimber Compact ( as I want a 4" or 4 1/4" slide and Officer size frame) but do not want to spend the extra money replacing all the MIM parts. I do not trust them in a defensive handgun. (I have an mechanical engineering degree and know a little about the subject- enough to not trust these parts when used in high stress applications). The Colt which is currently being manufactured in limited quantities uses all Chip McCormick internals (trigger, sear, extractor, disconnector and grips). My question is does anyone out there have one of these new Colts and how do you like them? While the 1/4" longer slide does not seem like much I think it balances better too( on the Colt). Gun Test magazine voted the CCO slightly better than the Kimber (more accurate). Combat Handguns claimed the CCO (new model really called the Concealed Carry as stamped on slide) did 1.5" at 75 yards (Nov.99 issue).Colt now has dovetailed front and rear sights and Chips standard Rose wood grips sure looks better than Kimbers. These Colts are being produces on new machinery and tolerances are very tight. If anyone thinks I am making a mistake by going with the Colt over the Kimber please give me good reasons besides politics. Also, not sure but does the Colt still have the cheap plastic mainspring housing like the Kimber?

I have the first edition CCO. It is a wonderful gun. The new ones look even better. I had mine customized, checkering, Ashley Big Dot sights, etc. and use it as my carry weapon. Mine did have a plastic mainspring housing, which I had replaced with a stainless checkered one. Big improvement. I think you can do a lot worse than the CCO.

Yes, you could own a gold Cup or Python like me. SKIP COLT. They don't deserve to profit from their poor quality or crappy politics, no matter how hard they try to get your business by 11th hour turnarounds. Brian Bilby, I believe, posted that the quality has gone up, but isn't Kimber level still.

I have a Colt CCO that I purchased in June 1999; it is not "first generation CCO", but it isn't "latest generation CCO" either -- it somewhere in between with the Mark IV stainless slide and aluminum officers frame (brushed satin finish). I cannot say enough good things about this gun. It is EXTREMELY accurate and reliable. I don't mind the "cheap" mainspring housing -- heck, it helps cut down on weight. All I have done to the gun is replace the standard recoil spring with a 20 LB Wolff spring, and I changed out the magazine springs with WOLFF extra power springs. The sights are regulated DEAD ON, and like I said earlier it is more accurate than any gun I have owned before. Every bit as accurate as the Sig P220 I used to own. The barrel is fitted very well and locks up tight. I am very pleased. I am so pleased with it I don't even bother looking at Springfields or Kimbers any more. :)

Ditto what Dogger said. Besides, you get a gun with a pedigree longer than 10 years! ;)

I don't own a CCO but I have shot a few. I love them as much as my Defender. They seem to be great guns! As for Kimber, they are nice too. But I like the Colts for the name and the firing pin safety.( just makes me feel better )
What did Colt do to us except downsize? They are having the same hard time as all of us gun owners with the antis! If you guys know something that I don't please let me know!I figure when the lawsuits are all over and we get rid of "Fearless Leader" Colt will be back to full strength. Until then thier guns are still worth buying!

I own the first version of the CCO and without a doubt the BEST ccw gun I have had yet to date. This includes, Star's (2), PO, and 2 other Colts, and a Kimber Classic. Don't listen to what everyone says about Colt this and that. Truth is I haven't had a bad one. They all worked! This CCO happens to work better than most and 100% of the time. It out shoots my Kimber by a margin and carries a hell of alot nice. It was also cheaper by over a 100 bucks than the lt. wt. kimber. I don't regret the purchase one iota and am glad I did it. It is now for the most part the only gun I carry. The CCO I believe uses only a few McCormick parts, mostly in the trigger group. The thumb safety and the followers for the mags. are made inhouse I think as well as most of the other parts, except for the sights, trigger group, and main spring housing. It is the quintessential defensive handgun, the Commanders slide mated to the lt.wt. officers frame. The frame is also reinforced with titanium. thanks
