Anyone familiar with preban PWA AR15?

I noticed quite a few pop up recently. Been looking for a preban similar to the ones we had in the military (Govt profile 20" barrel, F/H, bayo lug - minus 3 round burst of course). Already have postban Bushmasters, so it won't be first AR15. Is the quality up to par with Bushmaster?
What about Colt?
How much would you pay for one in excellent condition? Thanks in advance, Gunhound.

my last one cost me $600 (pre-ban) and that included the ammo.
as far as i am concerned (IMHO) a lower is like a body of a car/truck. the appearence is in the eyes of the beholder. it is what's under the hood that counts. so goes the lower. it only holds the trigger assembly (and yes the pins to which the upper is attached) i again (imho) do not care who's lower i am using, they all do the same thing. as for as good as colt. please spare me. am i the only one who feels that colts's are over rated, over priced guns?
i will pit my stock pwa/ oly/ dpms/your choice against colt stock any time any where. pwa makes a fine lower. to really beat this to death who makes a better lower armalite or eagle arms? same mfg different price. since eagle arms is less expensive does that mean that armalite/eagle did less of a QC and overall inspection on one than the other? just wondering.
to make a long reply short go for it!

Not a diehard Colt AR15 fanatic, nor do I own one. I am pro Bushmaster. I guess what I was trying to ask is if there were known problems with certain lowers such as out of spec holes, irregular castings, ect. Stories of problematic lowers have been reported on Olympic and ASA, but could have been bad info. I am mostly familiar with Colt, FN, and BM. Gunhound

BEWARE!!!

Just because the receiver was made prior to the 1994 ban, there are legal issues about the "pre-ban" status of a complete rifle.

check out:

http://www.ar15.com

there is alot of inforomation about "pre-ban not just a ser#"

Preban status...

...for PWA lowers is hard to determine. I think that Pacific West Arms (?) made lots of receivers before the ban. However, many of them were not assembled into complete weapons before the ban--or at least you can't prove that they were. It would be technically illegal to assemble a pre-ban config on such a receiver. Any "preban" receiver that is in perfect scratch-free condition might be suspect. Check ar15.com.

As for quality of the PWA lower, mine is just great. All the holes are in the right places, the (greyish) black finish is perfect. It assembled into a very good-looking, accurate, and malfunction-free rifle. A little birdie tells me that lots of manufacturers like Wilson assemble guns from PWA lowers.

Burden of Proof

If the initial buyer of a pre-ban lower assembled it into a rifle before Sept. 1994, then its legal. If not, its a post ban.

How would the Feds prosecute such a case? For instance, someone purchased a lower AND the parts but didn't assemble it until Nov. 1994. Its post-ban but how COULD it be proven????

PWA's........pre ban v.s. Post

If you have deep pockets..............go ahead.
Burden of proof, will be on you, while you are in your lawyers office, facing a felony idictment.
THE ONLY way to stay on the up and up, on this issue.........is to have a recipt, and a box with the rifles serial number on the end of it.
That way, there is NO mistake..........
and even if your right on the first issue, you will still be out major time and dollars.
If you have a pre ban reciever, and you assemble it AFTER the post ban date, you have an illegal weapon.
Technicalities, and paper work idiosyncracies......are, and have gotten more people into hot water than you can believe.
Be smart, and PAY the extra $400.00-600.00..........for a bonafide, provable PRE ban............complete weapon.
That's PEEENUTTTS...........compared to what you'll be shelling out if a problem arises.
It's not worth it...........
Always remember.........YOU ain't even got near as much money as Unca Sugar............if you WIN, you LOSE.........
my .02's, and change.......for what it's worth.(:-0)
