Anyone familiar with Knoxville PD, Tn?

I'm considering adding this department to my list of choices. Is anyone familiar with this department and the area?
Is it a nice place to raise a family?
What side arm do they issue?

I've never been there so just trying to get some feedback.

I grew up about an hour East of Knoxville -- fair country, but I can't say I was ever real impressed with the city proper. Always seemed grimy and dark to me.

Once you're outside of the city, I think you're fine. I had a friend living somewhere off the Strawberry Fields exit, and as I recall it was lovely country and good people.

Don't know a thing about the city PD first hand, but there is a fella on here who's posted quite a bit about their buy-back programs and associated nonsense -- didn't seem especially citizen-friendly.

And if you head a little southeast, there's Asheville -- depending on your politics, you'll love Asheville or hate it. Gorgeous country, most folks are friendly -- and the whole town is sortof a New Agey island in the middle of the Bible Belt. Kinda like entering a foreign country.

I live and work in Knoxville. The city is attempting to undergo a resurgence in terms of its downtown, which is the only real drawback to the whole area. Hopefully, we can follow the lead of Nashville and Chattanooga, both of which were in a similar boat and turned things around.

Knoxville is conveniently located near the Smokies, and more lakes than you can shake a stick at. Also, we're only a few hours drive from Nashville and Atlanta, and Charleston is well within range for a weekend jaunt.

As for the PD, they did have an unfortunate incident involving a buyback where some cops decided to throw their weight around. But, not much problem outside of that. They are a bit under the gun right now because they've had several legitimate shootings that the media/special interest groups went nuts about. But, they're coming out of that.

Be advised, however, that if you aren't a big football fan, you might want to avoid the area during the season. Nothing, but nothing, is discussed except football. either a big footb

The Knoxville pd and I do not see eye to eye on alot of issues, such as individual freedoms, however I cannot speak high enough of the sherrifs department. One thing the kpd is doing right now is putting up billboards with the following. "report illegal guns, $100 reward for any convictions." with a picture of a .38, at the bottom of the sign it states "all calls are anonomyous" I thought it was kinda funny. other than that Knoxville is a great town with a low crime rate and according to a local newspaper poll i read they have the highest percentage of houses with firearms in the country.

What _exactly_ is that percentage?
I wonder how anyone could make such a claim with confidence.
I did read years ago that the said percentage in middle TN was 75%, but how could anyone know?
