Anyone ever fired a J frame S&W .357 snubbie?

Those super lightweight .357's are a bear to shoot. I don't generally recommend them. Most people would be FAR better off with something like my 640-1 in .357. Centennial design which I prefer. Full stainless. DAO of course. And surprisingly accurate. I could win some money off most people on range bets with that gun. It does buck and roar with max 125 grain JHP's but you can control it. And it doesn't actually bring you physical pain. Well, as long as you have on ear muffs. I shudder to think what it would sound like in an enclosed space with nothing.

anyone ever fired this smith and wesson J frame 360PD snubbie .357?

Sure have! Don't do a lot of it as the recoil is somewhat more than just "stout" which is about what you would expect from a gun that weights 12oz "nekkid". Like the other posters I prefer 38spc. +P stuff because of the lighter recoil.

I bought a 360 kit gun, 3", 14 oz. and put a box of .38s thru it last month. I know that it shoots where you point it at 10 yards, so I'll be comfortable just to keep it full of .357 black talons to carry or keep by the bedside.
My son shot 10 or 15 rounds of .357 thru his 360PD that day and said that they were a handful !!!

I haven't fired anything that lightweight, but have fired a 640. I wouldn't shoot anything but .38 special out of it unless I just wanted to punish myself.

I have had a M637 and I shot it once. Traded it off. I had a M60 and I shot it in a pins fundraiser. Traded it off. They are not much pleasure. I far prefer my old M30 in 32 S&W Long in J frames.

I fire my 340 PD once and a while. If you shoot a few cylinders of full house 357's before you shoot a 44 mag it makes the 44 seem like a pop gun. :D

I try to fire the "beast", my 340SC, at least once a month with my carry load, Federal 130 gr Hydra-Shok. It is not a fun gun to shoot but it is my "always" gun,

A poster on another site says that gun shops in his area are full of those super light .357 revolvers for sale, used, with 47 rounds of ammo.

I have both a 2" and 3" barrel M60 and have shot both with 357Magnum:eek:. Wasn't very much fun. I use 38Spl. now. If I were to buy another snubby, it would probably be specifically for 38spl+p, as the true 38spl guns tend to be more accurate and make slightly more velocity, than those made for 357Mag when using 38Spl loads.

My carry gun is a Taurus 605, which is a close copy of the Smith M60.

Anything lighter would be, let's us say, PUNISHING!!! ;)

I am NOT a masochist!!!

A friend of mine has one and uses it to make money......usually its $20 says you wont put 15 rds thru this gun. He rarely loses.....most dont shoot past the first 5. He qualified with it as a backup piece (50 shots) and had a blister and bruised hand for the better part of a week.

They are stout then some. He carries and shoots .38spl in his. I recently bought a 637 (just shoots .38spl) and after he fired it he wished he would have saved his money and just bought the .38spl.

How about the Model 60 with the five inch barrel? Anyone have one (or more) of those? The look pretty neat to me, in an old fashioned way, in spite of the fixed sights. They probably could have achieved the same thing with a full lug, just for a little extra weight up where it would do some good, but it should otherwise be a great thing for carrying, with good balance and pointability.

It's still probably a handful to shoot. Elmer Keith probably would have loved it.

I have a Taurus titanium 651, which weighs 17.1 ounces unloaded. I don't like very much at all shooting my typical .357 125 grain JHP through it. My standard carry load in that revolver, like so many people these days, is the Speer Gold Dot .38+p 135 grain JHP.

I have many other snubby revolvers, and I have found that unless they are at least 23-25 ounces, I don't like to shoot .357 through them.

I looked at them. Have yet to here ANY owner say that it was tollerable. Friend of mine says his 360PD is significantly more punishing than his .500 S&W. Beyond the recoil, there is also that reported issue with bullets pulling and jamming action under the heavy recoil. I want 100% reliability in my revolvers and really don't feel the differnece in IWb carry weight anyway. I've set my lower limits at the 15 oz airweights for 38 spl and the 23 oz j-magnum framed 60/640 series if I realy want .357 or 38 +p. I feel at home with either but admittedly mostly shoot 38 or 38 +P in my j-frames anyway. ( Reserve regular 357 shooting for k framed guns) Best of all, I bought a minty 642 and 640 for the price of a 360 PD :D

To each their own, though.

I honestly haven't shot any of the J frame scandi/ti guns in .357, but I do shoot my standard model 60 all the time with full house magnum loads.
Its not as bad as a four inch model 19 with the big target grips for some reason, which was always a big hand stinger for me....
