Anyone ever bought one just for the trigger?

Had a table at a small gun show today to reduce some of the collection. Did NOT plan on buying anything! Yeah right! Then a privateer walks up with this Colt he had for sale that I knew absolutely nothing about. The piece looked somewhat old and worn, but well cared for anyhow for it's age (he said late 30's production).

The guy rambled on about how this was some revolver in it's day. That it was customized by Colt's "King" custom shop sometime "way back when". I really didn't care for any stories. Then I squeezed the trigger! This is the best trigger I have ever pulled on any revolver. Had to have it just for the trigger. Asking price $350, settling price $250. I cannot be more thrilled with the purchase, even if I did pay too much.

Still don't know anything about this revolver or whether I did well on the purchase or not? Would like any info or input on the piece if anyone knows anything about this Colt "King" custom .38 Special? Photo attached. Thanks in advance.

Look at this! A mirror inset into the rib to highlight the polished brass insert on the front sight blade. See photo.

Drifter.....that's a bit of history.

That revolver is a one-handed bullseye "race gun" from the old days.

The "King" may refer to King's Gun Works who were to Colt revolvers what Bill Wilson (or Armand Swensen) is/was to 1911 "practical" guns.

I'm a Smith revolver guy; but I would have that Colt in my stable, just for the history.

If you shoot bullseye, give that revolver a try. If you don't you now have a moral obligation to learn.

Oh my.
Officers Model Target 3rd issue....heavy bbl started in 1935.
And it is custom by a "Name".

Did you kiss the seller ?

Tellme where to send it, and I'll have a money order for $350, plus postage, and a letter with my FFL's info in the mail TODAY!

that gun is worth every penny you paid, and then a couple franklins... and if it shoots sweet to boot, then it's a GREAT deal!

They didn't arrest you for armed robbery?!
Picture Jim Carrey in "The Mask" and consider that deal
SSssssssssmoooooooooooookin'!
:D

Definitely a King's Gunworks custom, by the looks of it.

what you have was a state of the art target pistol for it's day (one handed, stand on your hind legs and shoot SA) the colt officer's model was the choice of the target crowd and yours was customize (read that CUSTOMIZED) buy the king's gun works.

this was the gun that colt was replacing when they introduced the python.

ayup, you stole it :D
