Anyone else prefer 6-shooters?

I know, it's the Revolvers forum. But what I mean is, it seems everyone wants to come out with 7 and 8-shot revolvers, and some with 5-shots.
I see the need to go down to 5-shots with the tiny snub noses. But I can't buy a Freedom Arms in .45 Colt that is a six-shooter. A big gun like that a 5-shooter? I mean it's not the .454 version or anything.

Or what about the new L-frame .357s with the half lug to replace the K-frames? Only coming out in a 7-shot. Why? Give me a choice! I like 6-shooters, dang it, but they won't make the L-frame witht he more aesthetically pleasing half lug in a 6-shooter?

Oh well, maybe I'm just weird arguing for less capacity and all. . .but then again I liked those 6-shot N-frame .357s that went out of style shortly after I did. . .

Whats wrong with 7? Go get a 686 standard, which is 6 shots. S&W might even put a half-lug (well, remove half of it) for you if you sent it to their custom shop (might cost something). 686's are fairly inexpensive, and very well made-much stronger than the n-frame which they replaced

Whoops, my mistake. Thanks for straightening me out, I know I can sometimes be about as bent as a zig zag line

I prefer the 6-shooters because Safariland has seen fit NOT to make Comp I, II, or III series speedloaders for 7-shot models!

If they did, I'd probbably migrate over to a 3" L-frame pretty fast.

I'm a curmudgeonly auld phart who like 6-shooters.

I suppose I could have one modified or have a half-lug barrel fitted to it. Maybe I'll just put up with the full lug and go buy a 586, if I can find one, so I can at least have a blue gun.

I like Smith five shooters and Smith six shooters, in fact, I bought a new (pre lock) Model 60 and 686 yesterday at the gun show. Would never buy or have a seven, eight, or nine shooter unless it is in one of the different makes of .22lr's that I like, ie. H&R, etc.

Call me a tradionalist, but its not a real revolver in my book unless its a six shooter...except maybe for the 500!! :D

With a large supply of Austrian Jet Loaders,K frame S&W's work just fine for me.I never owned a 7 or 8 hole wheelie and probably won't.

JUNGLE WORK,I like your Sig line. Great story and great men!

Tripplethreat,
Thanks, one of the two units I served with in the Republic of South Vietnam was the 3rd Battalion (Airborne), 506th Infantry (Currahee), 1st Brigade,
101st Airborne Division. We worked all over I and II Corps. They called us CURRAHEEs.

I didn't even know until this week that they made a 7 shot. It seems pretty pointless to me. The only situation I can imagine it being useful is to stonker a crook who's counting your shots. 'Did I fire all six shots, or only 5 .... do you feel lucky?'

Well, I would like to have 7 shots, thats 1 more than 6, and I guess after 7 reloads, I would have reloaded 1 less time than with a 6 shot revolver :p

I agree with all you guys. A six shooter is a six Shooter. Seven is just an odd number to me in a revolver. I shot a friends 2 1/2 in. 686 + it didn't feel right. When your used to the lock up of a S&W six shot the lock up on the seven shot is not the same, and it just don't feel right. Paul.

Yep, in my mind, revolvers need to have 6 holes in the cylinder, unless it's a snubby, or the cartridges are just too big and fat for 6. 7 or 8 shots just seems...well, weird...and the cylinders don't look right. :D

If it's not 5-6 it's 8(1911), 13 (Glock 23), heck I guess it does'nt matter. But I don't own any 7 or 8 shot revolvers. Unless S&W makes them without locks I never will either.

I like the 8 shot cylinder on the little smith and wesson 327. looks wicked from a frontal view of the cylinder. but I only own 5 and 6 shot revolvers. for now anyways.

The lock-up on the 7-shot is what I like about my 686-4. I shoot it better than my 19-3 6 shot.

Since my first pistol ever was a J.C. Higgins 8 shot .22 with 9" barrel (inherited from my Grandfather, who bought it about 1960) I kind of got started with a >6 capacity revolver.

Still got it, and it will still put a round dead on target anyplace within reach of a .22.

Right now I've got revolvers with 8, 6 & 5 shot cylinders. Guess I should buy that 7 shooter so I have a complete set.

Although IMHO the short barrelled high(er) cap revolvers I've seen have 2 large of a cylinder for easy concealed carry, I think their full size brethren are great guns for everything else.
