Anyone else have this problem buying a gun?

I currently own over 16 guns. The only revolver I own is a 1858 Remington black powder. Everything else is semi-auto. This left me wanting a revolver and I finally decided to pull the trigger on buying one. So off to the gun store I go. The problem is when I got there I started looking at more semi-autos and now I am getting a 1911 instead of the revolver I set out to buy.

unless you like "press fit" barrels buy a lightly used revolver.

of course MIM parts in 1911's ain't too hot either...

Gotta admit I've got a bunch more semi autos than revolvers but a Smith hammerless J frame in all steel is on my short list. Probably would carry as a backup. Never been a fan of airweights and ultralites. At least not since I shot a couple and experienced for myself how not fun that was.

Not a bad choice, but when you get the revolver inch once again, consider single actions. Spend enough time with someone who really knows something about them and you'll get hooked!

Yeah, I've had several next purchases planned until I got to the gun shop. Then I see an unusual model or a gun that has a particularly smooth action, etc. I've got one in layaway now that I had not planned on buying until I stepped in the door. The trick, of course, is to know when to give into those spur of the moment purchases and when to step back. I'm still learning. :)

i have two .357 revolvers,,,and two .40 autos,,, like them all ... used to be more accurate with the revolvers...but have shot many rounds and just as good now with the two autos...

It was prety much a leapfrog between revolvers and semi-autos as I was collecting. I have all I want for the moment until I find something new in stainless that looks sharp and feels good. I have the following dozen handguns trying to collect in stainless steel finish and standardize on a just a few types of ammunition.

5 revolvers:
3 x double action .357 - Colt Python 6", Ruger GP100 4", Ruger SP101 3"
1 x double action .22 - S&W 617 4"
1 x single action .22/.22 WMR Ruger Single Six

7 semi-autos:
1 x 45 ACP - Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy
3 x 9 mm - Beratta 92FS, Kahr K9, Kahr MK9
3 x .22 - Ruger Mark IIIs (1 x Slab Side Competition, 1 x Hunter, 1 x Bull Barrel)

Yes, but in exactly the opposite direction. After buying my first revolver in twenty years (an S&W M-66 in .357 Mag), I bought another. And another.
Soon, needing room in my safe and in my budget, I started selling semi-auto pistols as I continued to add to my revolver collection.

Although my total number is modest, my revolvers outnumber my semi-autos 2:1 or better.

I have the exact same problem. I set out to purchase a 357 magnum revolver a couple weeks ago but ended up picking up a S&W M&P semiauto instead.
A friend of mine put it best when he pointed out there's a reason no police department issues revolvers anymore. We've evolved past them.

(Prepares flame suit for that last comment. LOL)

I do the same thing. I am addicted to 1911's and Single Action Revolvers. I don't know how many times I set out to purchase a particular gun, then see something else I "need"! Last time I set out determined to buy a CZ, and found a Ruger .44 Special Flat Top that came home with me instead.

As they say try try again. Worst you can do is fill the safe with semi-autos. You can also pick up a cylinder for the 1858 and turn it into a metalic cartridge shooting revolver:cool:

I don't seem to have any problem with buying a revolver or a semi-auto, it all depends on what whispers to me first at a gun show or in a gun shop.

VTRich. I saw one of the Ruger Flattop 44 specials on a recent trip to the gunstore. A few days later I went by half hoping that they had sold it but it was still there. I ended up selling a couple of my extra cowboy revolvers and getting the flat top. I have just fired a few rounds through it so far.

I ended up going back today and getting the revolver. Like I said before I don't have any wheel guns and I wanted one just to "have". It is a Taurus Model 66, I got it for $250. Please no Taurus bashing, I won't fire it much and now I own at least one revolver. Why buy just one gun when you can buy two?

You are,by definition,a semi auto guy,so there is no sin in that.

You just like and feel comfortable shooting semi auto's.

Enjoy it.

LOL haha that is me to a tee it is the addiction, just bought 3 new ones this week I need to sit down to count them;),,HA wife finds out I will be living in the street:D

I agree with that and you`ll be that semi-auto guy till your at the gun store and pick up that ever so smooooth actioned, well balanced revolver thats just right. You`ll get that fuzzy feeling inside, buy it and your hooked even before you shoot it. OK, I gotta go smoke a cig. now:o

Same crap happened to me before! I ended up ordered the wheel gun I wanted online so I can't change my mind...

PS. I did play with my buddy's wheel gun prior making the purchase, so I know what I got myself into:D
