Anyone decided on a Ruger auto based on the rebate?

I keep getting an itch to add 9mm to my tiny gun collection, and I'm wondering if I should take advantage of the Ruger $40.00 rebate they are offering until the end of the year.

I'd be using the gun for range and home, not carry, so the size isn't an issue, and based on comments here, they seem rugged and reliable.

I'm just wondering if anyone here made the decision to purchase a Ruger semi-auto based on the rebate, and, if so, are you glad you did?

I know...

...we sold a blue million of those things based on the rebate.

In most localities, the $40 rebate means that, in effect, Ruger is picking up the tab for the tax and background check.

Go ahead and get one. I carried a P85 when I drove armored cars and I can honestly say that it was one most jam-free sidearms I've ever used.

I'd be hard pressed to overlook Ruger's $40 rebate offer if I didn't already own several 9mm pistols. I've shot a couple of my friend's P95 pistols and found them to be very accurate and reliable. Any one of the P95 variants would make an excellent range/home defense pistol IMO.

I bought both a KP95D and a KP944D before rebates (3 or so years ago). Both are excellent weapons, durable, reliable and accurate (had to drift rear sight a tad to the right to compensate either for their machining tolerances or my shortcomings). I have never had any regrets or second thoughts about their quality.

The rebate makes them even more of a bargain.

I woudn't buy one based on the rebate, except in the case of the .22 LR Mk II. The Mk II and 22/45 are nice little plinkers, and even the $20 rebate makes them tempting. The centerfire P-Series are good guns for the money, but even a 40$ rebate isn't enough to make me rush out and buy another. I have enough problems with the one I have already (P97).

I've also had a few cosmetic/fitting problems, but they are not serious. When it works right, its a great shooter (very accurate), but I can't trust the thing the way it pops its slide stop halfway out (locking up the action) once every 100-150 rounds or so on average.

NO!

Ruger makes great .22's and some nice revolvers. Just don't like the center fire autos, even for free.

Sounds like you have made the decision to get a 9mm. Why not get one that you really want and don't let the $40 rebate cloud your decision. You may be happy with the $40 rebate gun but if you are spending the money anyway?:D

I'm going to chime in on the Ruger fan club. The $40 rebate just makes it a sweeter deal. I have the p94 (.40) and the P95. I took my p95 to the range with a buddy of mine who has a collection to die for (among other things, a Sig p226, some really, really cool old German WW2 walther p-38's, Lugers, you name it) This guy was so impressed with p95, that he went out and purchased one the next day. The accuracy is great, the weight is low, the relialibilty is superb - Even sweetening the deal is that Hi-cap mags can be found really easy and for cheap (I think I paid about $30 for a factory hi-cap)

He!!, I didn't even know there WAS a rebate. But at $299 brand new for a Blued (purple  )one..., Tamara's right... 7.5% discount covers tax and BGC. Probably still won't buy one, but I would go for a 22/45 minus $40!!! (I know, they're only $20)
