Anyone carry their 642 in a safepacker?

I had to google wilderness safepacker to see what it was and I have to say Ilike it! I think it would be most handy for my new Ruger Alaskan (when I finally get it!). It looks like it would keep the gun handy while fishing & hiking and such. Thanks for the idea!!

Riverman: You're welcome. Thanks for the tip(I updated my post to be a clickable link).

Any and all opinions about the above are welcome here.

safepacker

FiVe,

I use a few afepackers for "car guns." They fit on the diagonal seat belt and give a decent crossdraw.

I prefer to keep the flap opened & tucked under/behind the body of the safepacker, to cut down the time needed to access the gun.

Safepackers are also a fairly good (and very discreet) off-body carry. Plus, you have an impact weapon right at the end of your wrist. OK, it's padded, but it can still deliver an attention-getter whallop.

stay safe.

I have not used the SafePacker with my revolvers, but I have used them with my Sig P226 and P229. Works very well for them and provides sufficient room for two spare mags as well as spare barrel and recoil springs. Protects the contents very well. It fits nicely on a belt or on the waist or shoulder straps of a backpack. Looks like a non-threatening map case or similar and generally does not stir up non-carrying backpacker/hiker types.

Dude, you gotta be kidding me. Did you see the size of that thing!? Even the guy in the picture is bumping his arm on it when it is on his belt. And strapping a gun bag to a car seat belt? Bizarre. The thing doesn't even look like a belly pack, it has sharp square edges. :barf: Further proof that you can sell anything gun related if it has black nylon and velcro. Do yourself a favor, go buy a small conventional belly pack with a zipper along the top which pulls in the proper direction for your off hand. Everybody hiking in the woods/playing tourist has a belly pack. A little practice and you will be able to draw as quickly as you could from a specialty pack. The great thing about a J-frame snub is that it has reasonable power and can fit in small places. If you are going to carry a monstrosity like that big square thing, you might as well carry a huge gun to go with it.

It's amazing how somebody who has never seen one in person, examined one, or (most importantly) carried one is all ready to badmouth them!

Wilderness is a VERY quality-minded company. Everything they make and sell is top of the line. I carry a Safepacker 24/7 and have since Christmas 2003. I have a S&W M296 in .44 Special in mine. Get one that is just "big enough" for the gun you want to carry. When I wear jeans I carry it strong side on my belt. In the summer I mostly carry it as a fanny pack with the optional fanny pack carrier. I also bought the shoulder strap which lets you carry it diagonally across your body. I've used the shoulder strap in the summer but also in the winter under a coat. Sort of a shoulder holster where I don't care if you can see the strap going across my chest.

I've never had one person, civilian or police, say one word about it.

I highly recommend them.

Widerness makes quality stuff. My carry holster is their Zip-slide and I have some of their belts too .

here is something similar that I found in American handgunner http://www.maxpedition.com/product/catalog_versipack.htm
it looks to me to be a great grab and go bag for carrying a pistol or revolver for a day hike and such . true it's not a real holster but it looks good to carry enough stuff for a day out in the woods and that includes a trail gun and knife and such. this company also makes day and three day packs that look pretty useful.

I'll speak up for the safepacker. I got one this past Christmas, as I wanted an unobtrusive carry case. I like it. It rides well in the truck. If I dont feel like holster CCW- I can hand carry it- for instance if I have to run into a store for a quick item.
I mainly got it because I had been looking a long time for something to carry a firearm while backpacking. I could not locate any sort of holster that will ride on a large backpack strap. The safepacker attaches quite easily- the gun is close by- and whenever I see sheeple on the trail that would be frightened by the presence of a gun, they just think it is another accessory pocket.
I also like it because I can fit a variety of guns into it (using the removal muzzle spacer) I have carried full size 1911, commander, USP compact- and when backpacking a Taurus Tracker .41mag.
