I was wondering if any of you guys CC a revolver in a cross draw type rig. I"m thinking about getting one of the 5shot 357mag Model 60 S&Ws in a 3" bbl and thought it would be good in a cross draw carry rig.
I've been thinking about cross draw alot lately cause I just can't get the auto out worth crap from the 4oclock positon when driveing.
Any suggestions about holsters?
Thanks JB

When proprly worn, crossdraw holsters are actually more to the front of the body than the side. While they do work well while driving, once you get out of the vehicle it is harder to conceal as the butt of the gun tends to stick out.
I like crossdraw for large framed guns especially those with longer barrels. However, this is only for field use. For CCW I much prefer a standard strong side hip carry.

I agree, cross draw is a harder to conceal than strong side.

I also have trouble drawing strong side, even while standing. It's a shoulder thing. My cure was strong side, butt forward. Something about knucles toward belt that makes the draw painless.

I don't know if this counts but I carry a Taurus 85 in a KO fanny pack. The gun is positioned on my left and drawn with my right.

The only cross draw rig I've ever had any luck with is the one pictured below. You can wear it strong side or cross draw.

Like others have said, cross draw is a bit harder to conceal, but a pancake holster like this one does hug the body a bit better than one with just 1 belt loop.

This holster is a handmade one. No maker markings. Found it on E-bay.

I've tried a number of times, tried it with a Sig 239, 1911, Model 19, Glock 19, even a couple of j-frames. I've only had luck with the Sig and the j-frames. For the Sig I used the "beltster", a combo belt and holster rig, it worked quite well for me.

consider a cavalry draw for the seated position

or a Wilderness Packer on the seat belt. Sadly in my experience best for seated in a car is bad for out of the car and vice-versa. Currently I go off body in the car and shift for out of the car but I'm still looking.

ambidexterous nut-case

I prefer crossdraw on my weak hip; I can draw with either hand (except I can't "practice" at IPSC matches :D); it really suprises the bad guy  ; I can drive my car.
Conceals well, can protect gun with weak elbow, works for me.

I 'crossdraw' mostly IWB.
Witnesses, 1911's, GP100's (the Redhawks are too big....)

omegapd:

Your "no-name" holster appears to be an exact copy of the original Roy Baker "Pancake" holster.

Baker made the first of the "flat" style holsters with the multiple belt slots.

Cross Draw

I have mostly carried cross draw. Vertical holster. Under a vest it conceals well , IWB . .45 auto. Can use either hand this way. I'm rather slim built, and have to choose my attire to work with concealed carry. Even carrying a SSA I usually carry it cross draw and vertical. Just seems to work better. Butt forward right hand works well for me too............... MUTT
