Anyone carry a double-stack pistol as their CCW?

I was reading a few other threads and it got me thinking about this ... While I like the feel and higher ammo capacity of double stack pistols (especially for home defense), I seem to prefer single stack models for concealed carry due to their flatter profile (even though my S&W4513 is slightly larger than my 4013, I still like the 4513 better than the 4013 for concealed carry). Just curious how other members feel about this? Do you prefer single stack over double stack for concealed carry, or the other way around or doesn't it matter?

With my build, it doesn't matter. I can hide a double stack, single stack or revolver. Hell, I can even conceal a .44 Mag. What it boils down to:
1. Your Build
2. Your Attire
3. Good Belt
4. Good Holster

I carry the pistol that I shoot the best, find the most reliable, and can still conceal. For me, that's usually the Glock 26, which of course is double stack. I think the length of the grip is more critical to concealment than the thickness of the grip. YMMV.

I'm with Jimmy, I carry the gun I shoot the best with---a full size 1911. Before I found out I shot best with the 1911, I had carried double-stack Glocks, SIGs and Para Ordnances though, with no problem.

What San Tao said, and what jimmy said.

I stopped carrying a pistol after I ran into some misfeeds at the range. Single stack 1911. I then wanted to carry my GP100 because I can shoot well out to 50 yds with it in 4" and I like the headache it would give to a BG. I had to change my general attire though. The 357 in 4" is bulky.

As far as a double stack mag, Yeah I would carry one if I liked the gun and could shoot well with it. In 9mm, I would only carry a double stack mag - IMHO - the round is not powerful enough for my liking. A double stack .45 is the much gooder ;).

Regards.

Other than my P7M8's occasional turns on the belt, and brief flings with a 3913 and an Astra A-75 many moons ago, I think all of my CCW autopistols have had mags of the two-column persuasion.

Oh, and that Colt Commander for a couple months...

Fud,

Yes, I carry a double stack. A Glock 26. Sometimes, I carry my Glock 19. I have no problem concealing either of these guns.

Frankly, I don't think it matters. In most self defense situations, 5-7 rounds should do the job.
However, I do carry a double stack Glock 19 occasionally (depends if I can wear the shirt draped out or if I'm wearing a sports jacket).
If not in that attire, a Kahr MK9 or Taurus 85UL in a pocket holster does the job nicely.
That's one man's opinion.

I wear full-size guns, because they make me feel good.

The only single stack carry pistol I own is the Kel-Tec P-32.

Before that I carried my Kel-Tec P-11 in the 100+ degree Texas summer, when shorts and a T-Shirt are the uniform of the month.

In the cooler months I carry my Glock 26 or 19.

Yep- another Glock 19 for CCW in all but the hottest months.

Well my P 11 is a double stack, not a very big gun though, when I get a G 34 that will become primary and the P 11 will become backup. Currently the P 32 is backup to the P 11.

I have no problem carrying double stack auto pistols with good leather. I can say the same thing for guns up to S&W N-frame size. A good belt and holster are the key to success.

Fud,

During the Winter I have no problem carrying and concealing a five-inch, full underlug "N" frame Smith revolver. Surly, they are as large as most double-stack semiautomatics.

One secret may be a belt (bought through Galls) that has a Kevlar inner liner. This permits all sorts of weight to be carrier with any sag. Combine that with a good holster and the "N" frame is -- at most -- a little indistinguishable bump under my outer coat.

Regards.

Width is only one dimension that affects carry potential. Grip and slide length and weight also affect my choices.

No problem carrying double stack or single stack CCW guns.

Usually carry a Glock 26, Glock 19, or a Glock 30. In colder weather, the HKP7 does some carry duty.

concealing a handgun has a lot more to do with the quality of the holster/belt then the size of the gun. also where you carry the gun and your build is a consideration.

if i carried concealed i would most likely carry my Glock 19 or i'd carry a Glock 26 or Kahr K9 if i had trouble with the G19. Glocks have slimmer grips then other guns even though they're double stack since they have polymer frames and no grip pannels which add width.
