I was thinking of buying one of the S&W Model 10 .38 police trade-ins from Bud's for $269. Anyone buy one of these? Any issues with them? I'd like to hear your experiences if you have purchased one of these guns.

You could check out the dozens of customer reviews on Bud site. I'd say they are running about 80% + on the positive side
:)

What I've heard is that they are fairly typical of police trade in guns. They've spent a lot of time sitting in a holster, and they show it. Mechanically they are in good shape because most cops don't care shoot their guns anymore than they have to.

You might check J&G for model 10s too. They tend to sell alot of trade-in firearms for fair prices.

They're a great buy

I got one of the square butt model 10's from Bud's and I think it's a great gun. Definitely a bit of wear and tear from holster wear but the cylinder is tight and the trigger is FANTASTIC!

today i put some cold blue on mine to touch up the wear and man it turned out great. its not quite "new gun" quality finish, but it looks great. for whatever reason when i try to upload the pics it freezes up, any ideas?

I also bought a three inch square butt. I was able to pick from three or four since the place is local to me. It's a solid gun, my third Model 10. :)

Can't speak to the gun in question, but I've bought 3 guns to date from Budd's Lexington KY shop and have not been disappointed yet. In two instances they cut me a better deal than was listed on their website. In the shop, they are knowledgeable regarding individual guns, have several employees who specialize in different makes and models and will do the best they can to give you a fair shake based on what you can afford. going out in the desert tomorrow to test mine out, will report back on how it performs. on a side note, on the right side of the gun (opposite the cylinder release button) there is a sticker that says "VPA00678" and a small barcode looking thing. is this sticker from where the gun was originally in service or does buds put this on all their used guns?

took mine out shooting today, it was great! deadly accurate and no problems whatsoever. definately reccomend this gun for someone looking for a good budget 38. im gonna get some ahrends grips for it and it will be perfect!

Got Mine From Buds

Love the gun. As mentioned, showed a lot of holster wear, but functionally sound. The only complaint I have was it came with a rubber grip from around 1990. $15 Hogue grip from Amazon and all is good. I was really amazed with the trigger. I have a Ruger Security Six and S&W was equal or better in double action. Highly recommend, just don't always expect a wood grip from them.
