I've been looking for 7mm-08 and .243 brass for a wile now. Well this afternoon I stopped off at cabelas and found that they had both. The problem is it's russian made ppu brass. The price was more than Remington and Winchester brass.

Now for my question, how does ppu compare to say... Winchester brass?

PPU is Prvi Patizan, made in Serbia. Some folks have reported good results with it, but I don't have any experience with it myself.

I have some in 308. Mixed in with my Fed Brass, i can always tell when its a PPU piece of brass that ive just fired.

The bolt handle sticks about 2/3 of the way up. Have to give it a little smack to open the bolt. Its NOT a hot load and the fed brass is butter smooth on bolt operation.

Ive separated all the PPU brass out of my standard rotation and now use it only for subsonic loadings

If i found it at a great price, id buy it. For mor money then Federal.. No thanks

brass opinion

from what i have heard every that has used it is impressed ,i would buy Remington before Winchester they have had a lot of problem's with splitting on the neck's .i haven't fired any yet but i have 500 7.62x54 ppu and it look's perfect .the 7.5x55 i just received is great looking also .

I had it in 7.62x54R, 7.62x38R, 9mm,7.62x25 and some 7.62x39, all has been good brass for me. No issues with necks or primer pockets and anything for that matter. I like it.

It is likely there is a difference in case volume, less space = higher pressure.
Answer, Don't mix your brass, and work up loads for each headstamp. some brass is close to the other and some is not.

After I cycled out and dumped all my old Federal brass- I found I had quite a bit of PPU .223 brass on hand. I like it a lot. From empty weight, to neck thickness, to water capacity weight- it seems to be very very close to the older Winchester brass (don't have any of that which is newer than mid to late 90's).

Ppu is my favorite brass for reloading. It is slightly softer than other though which could cause longevity issues, but it is uber consistentq and easy to work with.

I thought about that, but there is no difference in velocity as measured by both my chrono and a magneto-speed. Both types of brass give the same velocity, within standard deviation

And no other signs of pressure:confused:

Shot around 30 rounds of 7x57 today. All were PPU brass I've reloaded maybe 4 or 5 times, maybe more. Have used PPU 7mm-08, 6.5x55 and 22 Hornet brass too with no complaints worth mentioning.

I, too, have had good luck with Privi brass.

I don't shoot much factory ammunition, but a year or so ago my gun dealer gave me a couple of boxes of 7.62 Privi ammo and asked me to fire it and see what I thought. Two boxes were pretty much standard; two boxes were marked "Match" and seemed to be loaded with 168 grain SMKs. He also gave me one box of GMM for comparison.

The first two boxes were fired in an M14. They not only functioned just fine, but they were more accurate than Federal AE and just as accurate as my handloads for that rifle.

The Privi "Match" rounds were superb: out of a good bolt rifle, they outshot the GMM (OK, by a small amount; call them equal if you like) and equalled my bolt gun handloads.

The 60 or so rounds of 7.62 Privi brass have since been reloaded and fired in the M14 at last three or four times. The rims are getting a bit dinged (typical of an M14), but otherwise they are just fine. Primers tight; no split necks (the brass shows annealing). So based on admittedly slim data, I'd rate Privi brass pretty high.
