Anybody use the Hornady Superperformance Match in .223 yet

I was noting the velocities that Hornady claimed in their American Rifleman magazine (2,930fps for 75gr). I assume that is out of a 20" barrel; but it got me to thinking that the same velocity increase out of my 16" barrel would shave about 3" of drop off the round at 300yds and almost 20" by 500yds,

I was curious if anyone had given it a try yet and if so, what kind of velocities were you seeing?

That is smoking hot out of an AR. I decided 2700 fps was my limit with N140 and 75 Hornday's. Much faster than that and I got pierced or blown primers.

I am aware of guys who push 77's up to 2800 fps, maybe a little more, but 2900 fps? Yikes!

I also would be very curious if anyone is getting that with factory ammunition out of an 20" barrel.

Whoa man....those babies are moving....I cannot help but wonder what's it doing to ur rifle tho..a bolt gun fine no probs...maybe match grade bolt groups would handle better...idk

OK, according to the American Rifleman ad and the Hornady website, the 2,930fps for .223 Superperformance is out of a 24" barrel.

Out of a 20" barrel, you have to go to 5.56 pressures for a velocity of 2,910fps, though they do note this isn't for .223 chambers.

In any case, an impressive velocity increase and combined with the 75gr BTHP, it should make for a round that has a really nice trajectory if that velocity pans out in actual shooting.

I'm hoping that will translate to around 2,700fps out of a 16" barrel; but at $1+ per round, I was curious if anyone else had tried it.

Hornady claims that this performance is achieved without ANY added chamber pressure or recoil. It's all about progressive burning qualities in the powder.

My .308 ammunition in Hornady SuperPerformance w/ 150grain SST is zipping at 3000 fps.

Purchased a box few days ago, shot 16 rounds, Savage 12 BTVS 223, accuracy was poor, this gun has a 1:9 twist, it will shoot consist .400 -.500 groups at 100 yards with most any brand 52gr bullet, I've tried 69SMk and Hornady 68gr Amax with same results(poor) thus my reason for giving the super performance match a try, for me not impressed accuracy wise but I did come out with some new brass although expensive.;)
