Anybody up on Taurus model numbers?

Is there any rational logic to Taurus' model numbers? Does anyone have a quick reference to what the model numbers mean? I'm buying a .38 Special Model 86, which was advertised as a "Target Model" and has a Patridge front sight with adjustable rears. Probably paid too much for it at $295 Cdn (US$185), but it was still NIB.

theGun Traders Guide lists it at $185 U.S.(2000), The Blue Book of Gun Values calls it at $270 in 100% cond.(2001) the value isn't going uo the books just differ that much. Gun was discontinued in 94 last MSR was $352.
  • 45 series .45
  • 60 series .357mag
  • 70 series .32
  • 80 series .38

    • the 44 models are .44 and the 90s are .22 every thing else pretty much relates to cal

Thanks for the info!:)
It looks like I paid about right for the Model 86....It is brand new with the original box. Any thoughts on quality..?
Here's a pic of the gun:

My wife's uncle got snookered on one

at a yard sale. I cleaned up all of the corrosion for him, including detailing it down. They did a couple of things on the inside somewhat bass-ackwards from how it's accomplished on an S&W. However, I will say that it's quite smooth, with great timing, and would rival most S&W's in those areas. BTW, if he'd paid what you're getting your's for, I wouldn't feel he'd been had.:D

I've seen them for $200 to $250 in pawn shops around here. And big .38s are not all that popular down here. I've owned several Taurus revos starting back in about '85 never had any real complaints. For NIB you didnt do bad at all.
