Anybody shooting B-P in a .30-06?

I have a yen to shoot my .30-06 double rifle with cast bullets and black powder. Is anyone here shooting B-P in a .30-06? If so what are you loading?
 
I can only dream about a 1911 for now hawg lol. Hopefully it becomes reality sooner then later! I'm currently in the process of getting my licencing to aquire such weapons. Which is eaiser said then done in my parts :p

With that said tho, a 1911 and possibly a browning hi-power are on my wish list!
 
The problem might be the lack of suitable bullets for the 30 caliber. Most cast 30 cals are set up to use alox/beeswax lubes but there may not be enough lube carrying capacity to keep fouling soft. Maybe a bullet with multiple lube groves would work.

Even Sam Fadala preferred using a 110 grain bullet loaded down for small game hunting with his .30-06.

Apparently Trail Boss makes a good load with a 155 grain cast bullet which tends to verify the first reference above. What's useful is that the velocity can be duplicated using Black Powder.

Here's a thread mentioning to swab between every shot because the bullets aren't lubed. Also in the last post an unusual warning regarding using jacketed bullets with black powder.

illus1on, I picked up a Rock Island tactical the other day. For a cheap 1911 it's a great deal. It will feed anything you want to put thru it.
 
Hello, duelist 1954. When the British adopted the .303 in 1888..the Mk.1 used a 215gr. full-jacket cuprometal bullet, and a compressed charge of black powder ( the powder was compressed into a solid cyl. & inserted into un-necked case, after seating a card wad over powder, the case was necked & bullet seated..This same procedure was followed for the later cordite loading.
The Metford rifling, with it's rounded lands & grooves probably helped control fouling build up.

Seems to me that, if one wants to follow the standard advice about using BP, that compression may be an issue in a case like the .30-06. Maybe not.
Will filling the case into the neck provide adequate compression?
