Anybody seen this "FN Police Rifle" thing??

Only place I've seen it is Fulton Armory. I like Fulton Armory and they've got a "no BS" reputation, but I'm a little confused. Which action is this based on? Is it something FN designed as well as produced? What's with the chrome lined barrel? Seems to make no sense unless they developed this for some kind of military application. If they're shooting .28 inch groups with a lined barrel, what would an unlined barrel shoot??

At $799 it looks like a steal. My "too good to be true" alarm is going off though.

Well it's over at the FN site...

... so you can see it over there too:)

I think it got announced by FN about 6 months ago, but I didn't see anyone offering them for sale then. From what I remember at the time, and looking at the pictures of the rifle, it is a Winchester M70 controlled feed action with the 3 position safety. There was some sort of business deal between FN and USRAC - but I can't remember what it was (or is). Chrome lining is a metalurgical process that increase the rust and erosion resistance of barrel steel - Bushmaster uses on it's AR barrels for example. The stock is the same one that Remington uses on their 700 PSS.

Now I wish you wouldn't have posted this link - strange 'want/need' thoughts are going through my head!!!

Hope this helps - JohnDog

I've seen it and it's based on the Winchester pre-'64 Model 70 action. FN doesn't make Mauser actions anymore. Stock is from McMillan and barrel is FN (adapted from their FN-MAG). It looks good, but the price isn't $799 but rather $1300. $799 is the dealer price (The latest edition of Accurate Rifle recanted their earlier quote).

Fulton Armory is showing them as in-stock for $799. All you need is a friendly dealer. I wonder if FN would just sell the action? Something like this in .300 WSM might be fun to play with.

The lined barrel is strange, though. Did FN find a way to line a barrel without sacraficing accuracy? If so, they've got a winner. I gotta keep my eyes out for one of these.

Looks a LOT like

one of the more recent Winchester Model 70's, that had the "improved" pre-64 claw extractor action, introduced in 1994 in an attempt to bring back the Winchester faithful to the fold.

Anybody remember the Winchester Custom Sharpshooter? Looks familiar, don't it? ;)

Yeeeaaah. Except for that European scope on a one piece base, it does look like the old (early '90s) CS I got. McMillan A-2. Barrel contour at the receiver appears to be about the same as the Schneider's. I wonder if they'll gaurantee 0.5 MOA also.

FN SPR

FN,
owns USRAC, and Browning, and all three of them are owned by a french conglomerate known as GIATT(sp).
The action and barrel, are all Winchester..........stamped with FN's logo, the CL barrel is supposed to be FREE of any irregularities in the lining process.............it has a drop free detach mag, and a HS Precision Marksman stock..........

Huh, I thought GIATT cut FN loose (but still retains a part of it).

Now that I have gone to the FN site, I see that the rifle is not as much the same as the CS as pictured earlier.

Never the less, it and a Model 70 Stealth are on my list.
