Anybody remember the Star Starfire?

The other day I was looking over a local gunshop and I saw a well used Star Starfire in the case. I remember hearing about these some time ago, something about them being banned from importation by the 1968 gun control act due to small size. What was the reputation of these little autos? They look like they would be roughly the same size as a PPK and they feel comfortable.

Alex, Are you sure it wasn't a Firestar? If so I have one of those and they look like a mini .45 and I do believe they made them in that cal. also. Mine is 9mm, and in my opinion it is a good little gun. I purchased this just as Star was going out of business.
For it's size it is a bit on the heavy side, but it seems well made and I have had no problems with mine. Hope this helps :)

Happy Shooting :)

Hello. The "Starfire" was as you note a small .380 that couldn't be imported as it didn't meet the minimal number of points required by BATF. Best.

Is this the same Star .380 that looked like a shrunken 1911? If so, used to have one labeled "Firearms Industries Model D" by the importer. It was a useful little gun if you were willing to trust in the .380's stopping power or lack thereof.

About 5 years ago I bought one NIB at an auction.

Wasn't sure what the street price was when I bid. Paid $230 for it. Found out later in the day it was worth about $175.

Shoot about a box of ammo through it. Fuctioned fine but accuracy was sorta poor.

Ended up trading it in on a full size 1911 later that same year.
