Anybody like horizontal mag holders?

Personally, I found them quite handy for comfort and accessibility when worn on my uniform gun belt, since I carried my pistol mag carriers in the same spot on the front of my belt as I used to carry my speedloader double pouch.

I find the vertical carriers more practical, for me, when carrying spare single or double mags at my side.

I tend to like to have belt mounted carriers easily & rapidly accessible for use whether I'm standing or seated.

Vertical magazine holders tend to allow the sometimes sharp corners of the magazine to poke me. I much prefer a Fricke horizontal holder for compact/full size magazines. I like to wear it at the 8-9:00 position, base plate forward, bullet tip down for easy draw with the left (off) hand.

For subcompact (G26) mags, I have a Don Hume clip on holder. The magazine base plate barely extends above the top of my belt, so it doesn't poke.

A horizontal mag carrier is more comfortable to wear, especially if you have a case of Dunlop Disease. But from what I have seen on the range, it is slower to load from. Pick your poison.

I was using one of my Blade Tech single carriers with the Tech Lok rotated 90* into the horizontal position when I first started using an AIWB holster. Worked really well. Once I got used to drawing from it, I found it to be pretty quick too.

Moving it to the 11 o'clock position, opposite the gun, allows you to actually bend over at the waist, and not worry about anything poking out.

While I did like it, I did move on, and now use one of the NPE type carriers on a lanyard/leash. Works even better.

Thanks for the responses. The one or two videos I was able to find match with what JN01 and AK103K are saying - somewhere between 8-11 o'clock for a right-handed shooter drawing the mag with the left hand out of the holder to the left and/or back (counterclockwise,if you will) and then up to the gun. Makes sense that would be marginally slower than a vertical motion drawing up and into the gun. For competition maybe that would matter but for carry I think it would be fine. Would still be a heck of a lot faster than my LCR speed strip reload.

I did want to get clarification on this point:

Worn crossdraw, just behind the first belt loop.
Are you saying something different than above? Crossdraw for a left handed mag draw sounds like 1 or 2 o'clock but still drawing to the left and then up. Seems like it would be easy to hit a belt buckle so I'm probably just not getting what you're saying.

I've been trying out the Sariland 123 Horizontal Mag Holder over the past week. So far I don't really have any complaints. I wear it at about the 7-8 o'clock position. You really can't see it print and I can get to it with both hands. I make no arguments that it is the fastest option, but it's comfortable and the other options I've tried typically end up with me not carrying an extra magazine. I do wish it wasn't velcro though as I wonder how it will hold up long term. I was actually planning on ordering one of the MagHolder products for the Glock this week. I'm not crazy about how the mags pulls out from the rear so I will get one designed for the opposite hand so I can keep my current setup. I've tried out crossdraw options but it's sort of obvious on me (my tactical shelf isn't fully developed yet) and I'd rather have weight on both sides.

I'm right handed. I wear the Magholder on my right, ahead of the holster. The base of the magazine faces my left. Grasp with the left hand, pull it out, then up to the gun held in the right hand. Belt buckle is off center a bit. Hitting the belt buckle has not been a problem to date.
