Anybody know anything about the Astra model A75 9mm?

I recently purchased one in my quest to find a good reliable carry gun in the 400 dollar range. I had a Kel-Tec p11, but i jammed a lot, and could not be made to work by the factory. The astra seems to be ok, but I guess time will tell. Any input?

Mike, A buddy of mine has an Astra A-75 with an alloy frame in 9MM. It's very reliable pistol, although not quite as accurate as my Kahr K9 it's certainly accurate enough for defensive use. I've personally run close to 500 rounds through this gun without malfunction. I was considering the purchase of an A-75 but found the K-9 at a very attractive price. The A-75 should serve you well. Same here. I don't own one, but a buddy does. He claims that it is a great pistol for the money, referring to it as a poor man's SIG.

I have an A-75 in .40, stainless steel frame and finish. It has never failed me in any way. I've carry it almost every day as either my back-up or off-duty gun. I have lost count how many rounds have gone down its barrel, but it's over 5000. My only complaint is that the trigger has a little creep in it. It is hands down the best gun for the money in this size category as far as I'm concerned.

Have two. Very compact. Like mine very much. Only drawback is they are a bit on the heavy side for their size (I have the all steel models). The added weight does help in recoil though. Don't carry it on me, CCW still illegal in Ohio.

No malfs yet. Have shot mostly ball and Federal HP.

Only problem I had was one of the original plastic stipled grips cracked from the mag release button towards, but not completely to, the relief for the web of the hand. Ordered a couple of rubber grips from EAA as replacements. They don't look as nice but they work. Mags will take both 9mm and .40.

There is a South African manufacturer that makes essentially the same gun but with a decocking safety, I think. Have to see one before potentially purchasing one, though.

Is that the Sig clone?[/quote]

from the sigs I've seen it looks like them. So far, it has shot flawlessly. The only thing I can say, is that yesterday at the range, I shot about 200rds. When I was done I put my cor-bons back in it, and set it aside to shoot my Glock 22. I picked it up later to shoot it again, and the hammer would not cock, nor would the slide move back. I 'messed' with it and got it unstuck, cleaned it, and what the hey it works. I don't know what happened. But I'm leery of it know, and have gone back to carrying my glock. It could have been dirty or something, or a piece of grit stuck somewhere. It's pretty new, so maybe I just need to shoot it.

Mike,I used to have an A-75 and sold it to get a Keltec. LOL! :) The A-75 was a great little gun, especially for the money. Mine was in .40 and after a few clips full the tang would wear a spot on my shooting hand thumb knuckle raw. It never did it to anyone else who shot it though. My only beef was that it was too heavy for it`s size, hence the Keltec. Marcus

Mr Blonde, I believe the true SIG clone would be a clone of the P228. It is the DAC-394 by Josef Dlask a former engineer for CZ.

I had one at one time and regret selling it. It was very reliable and very accurate. It never gave me a problem of any kind,in fact it out shot a glock 19 that I had.

MrBlonde,

Externally, the gun does have a passing resemblance to SIGs but other than that, and the fact it only has a decocker and no safety, they are pretty different.

Just occurred to me what MrBlonde was thinking of. That one 9mm that looked almost exactly like a P-226 but incorporated the slide stop with the decocker. Formaerly made by Zastava as the CZ-99 but later copied (don't know officially or unofficially) by some South African company. Can't recall what the company and gun were (are) called.

That particular gun, although looking more like a SIG, was still internally different than the SIGs.
