Anybody have a Witness "carry comp"?

I'm wondering if you can take the compensator off the end of the pistol barel or if you have to have it on. I looked at one today in 45 acp and the comp looks like a seperate piece held on the barell someway. I'm wondering if you can remove it if you decide you don't want it on for one reason or another.
