Anybody else actually more accurate in DA?

Went shooting with the Taurus .44 mag and the SIG 220 night before last. It had been awhile. I thumb-cocked the .44 a few times, but it seemed like those shots were actually less accurate than simply using the DA trigger. The SIG seemed about the same either way.

I theorize that I must be flinching or something, because the only advantage of the DA I can think of is that it provides more of a surprise break. Is there any other explanation? Is this mostly because I'm so new, so that it may go away with practice? I feel pretty good about my performance in general, at 7 yds I kept 47 of 50 shots with the .44 inside a 5-inch shoot n' see. Just surprised about the trigger because I expected to do better in SA.

Think you're flinchimg.

Slow down, align sights, control the trigger.....

Try much dry-firing before your next range trip.

Agreed.. you're flinching (a .44 mag can do that to a guy).

The surprise break of a DA can make for some good scores, but it's not really "proper" shooting. FWIW, the first mag out of a new gun will usually give me the best score I'll get out of all the years I own it .

When shooting .38s in my GP100 I prefer the DA mode and am more accurate.

Leave an empty chamber in the .44. Do the Russian roulette thing so you don't know when the empty chamber is going to come up. Don't spin the cylinder as fast as they do in the movies though, that isn't good for the revolver, just turn it without looking. Now start shooting, when you get to that empty chamber you'll know if you're flinching or not.

I do dry fire quite a bit and I do generally load 4 rounds at a time to check the flinch. Hard to spot your own flinch once it gets a little less obvious, though.

WEll, I was afraid of that. I suppose I have no choice but to shoot more. You twisted my arm...... ;)
