Anybody Else A Magsafe Fan?

After I performed the little test they recommend on the package, I became a fan of Magsafe ammo.
Anybody else like Magsafe? (Especially in smaller pistols?)

I am a BIG believer in MagSafes for personal protection and LEO off-duty carry. They do not have reliable penetration for an on duty LEO. Also check out RBCD Platinum Plus.

Jeff,
Do you have Magsafes in any of your .25ACP's? I'm thinking I need to go over to the gun shop tomorrow and buy some for my .38 Special. :)

Had a guy (a 'security' expert) tell me the stuff would penetrate body armor. Don't know if he is an idiot, or thought I was an idiot.

I guess anything is possible, but I don't think it would go through body armor. On the package, magsafe recommends this little test. You tape a packaged corned beef brisket to a milk jug that is full of water.
Shoot the corned beef and observe the "wound". It's VERY destructive. (And I used a .25ACP from my Jetfire.) I would hate to be shot with a Magesafe of any caliber.
On the package it says from a Beretta 21 the .25ACP Magsafe has 1,750fps/150 ft-lbs. If this is anywhere close, it's quite powerful stuff.

I've seen gelatin cores for the MagSafe .25 ACP and 9mm loads. The penetration with the .25 ACP is about six inches. That's not enough, especially if the shots are hitting the rib cage. The 9mm, on the other hand, is very impressive.

I live in an apartment and my apartment gun is loaded with the MagSafe .38 Special SWAT load.

It might be good for selfdefense but I'll never know because I don't have enough money to buy 200 rounds for each pistol or 50 rounds for each revolver to test fire for reliability.

WLM, I have not tried the .25 ACP. Smallest I go is .32 ACP. As far as using a .25 for self-defense, if that is all you have on you, you had better be going for head and neck shots. If you do go for trunk shots pump them into the ribcage as quickly as possible (some are bound to miss the bones, even so I think a .25 will still break a rib), there are a lot of good things to hit within 6 inches of the surface like heart, lungs, and arteries which would be turned to pulp by a MagSafe.

Some time back I tried the Glasers and had a problem with the point of aim and point of impact being too far apart. Are the Magsafe's any better? How is the penetration on the .38 and 9mm rounds? Reliability of the 9mm as far as feeding and function?

Thanks!

Giz

Keep them loaded in my Glock 23 while at home. I alternate, first 2 are Magsafes, then Corbon 135gr JHP. - Just in case penetration does become an issue.

I'm another person that doesn't believe in the "magic bullet". In small calibers like the .25, I think you're probably better off with an FMJ, you don't get near enough penetration with an HP or pre-fragmented round IMO. I also carry FMJ in my Keltec P32 for the same reason. I like the HydraShok or Golden Saber in my .380 and above handguns...

Well...some people like them and some don't. That's OK. :) I was at the Louisville show yesterday and I purchased some Magesafe in .32ACP for my P-32 and some Glaser for my Guardian. Liko JohnO, I'm going to load the mags with a couple rounds of the pre-fragmented stuff then some full metal jacket. By the way, I got the Glaser for my Guardian because it's a little ammo sensitive and the round nose of the Glaser stuff ought to chamber well. My P-32 is not sensitive, so it gets the Magsafe. :)

Happy Shooting!

Sorry I can't help you find any Hornady ammo near you, but the reason I avoid Magsafe isn't the pressure or wear... but I simply can't afford to test hunderds of rounds for reliability. But if you've never had any probs with it, I need to try it for myself.

Ben

I ordered the Magsafe video. It was very impressive.

Magsafe DOES make a round that will go through body armor. It is a guarded secret because it doesn't break an ATF law. It DOESN'T use a steel core or Teflon or anything of a heavy metal/slick coating type thing. They will sell it to LEO's and certain individuals according to the video. They did test fire it in the video. Everyone should buy that video. IT is great

I've tested the "Kevlar Defeating" ammo produced by MagSafe. It didn't work. So I sent some to Second Chance Body Armor and had them test it too. It didn't work either. Boy was (the late) Joe Zambone pissed at me when I gave him the news. He accused me of rigging the tests to make his ammo look bad. He had a habit of heaping verbal abuse on those who didn't agree with him.

I have a copy of the video. It's interesting. Joe Zambone was a character and his narration of the tape is classic Joe. It presents an informal backyard ballistics-type comparison of different loads. In the narrative, Joe speculates a lot, and he's wrong a lot too.

I'm not a fan of MagSafe. I suggest the SWAT load, in a revolver, to anyone who's looking for reduced wall penetration, and who doesn't want to get a shotgun. For general purpose personal defense ammo I recommend conventional JHP ammunition due to Magsafe's limited and erratic penetration.

It's not inherently accurate.
