Anybody carried/fired the Colt Pocket Nine?

I have fired one, and dont want it.

The only thing going for it is size.

The trigger pull on the one i have messed with was about 500 lbs.

I am able to more accurately hit the target by throwing the gun at it, than by shooting at it, at any distance.

This is my personal experience, just based on shooting one gun for less than 50 rounds, though, so your results may vary.

I have a pocket nine. I bought it for concealled carry. I liked the light weight. It's actually lighter that some plastic pistols. I have shot maybe 100 rounds throught it. It will never match my 1911 for accuracy but I am able to hit 6-7 inch circle at maybe 25 feet. I really don't have the time to practice for better accuracy, maybe later.
I didn't buy it to shoot competition either. I am satisfied with it for the purpose that I bought it.

I had one and didn't like it. Pretty rollmarks though. I absolutely HATED the trigger. Pull weight was like 20lbs or so. No joke. The weapon wasn't accurate with any brand of ammo I tried and spare mags were non-exsistant. Sights were okay, grips were okay, cycling was reliable, and trade-in value was AWESOME. I actually made a trade wherein I didn't lose my a$$ when I dumped it. Made a little, as a matter of fact.

Also, whatever kind of stainless they used must have had a high carbon content. The top of the slide and the depressed areas in the rollmarks were constantly rusting. I eventually had to quit carrying it in my pocket because of the rust problem. When pocket carry became a non-option, the weapon was next to worthless to me as I had no other plans for a gun of it's small size. So I dumped it.

I have a Colt Pocket Nine.

The trigger is just like a revolver. And since the gun is DAO and there is no safety this works out just fine. You can get spare mags all day now, however for a while about a year ago you simply could not find them. Then Colt released a bunch and now they are plentyful.

If you have a good solid grip on the gun, then the DAO trigger is no problem.

If you are looking for a 1911 three pound trigger, get a 1911.

The pocket nine is about 15 oz of 9mm gun that you will forget you are carrying because it is so light and so small.

Like another poster said, the trade in value on these is going up all the time. Must be a reason.

The downside to these is that you basically can not get spare parts. They are also not made to take to the range and pump thousands of rounds through. They are a carry pistol, that, for a 9mm is not equaled by anything yet.

I can sight shoot the pistol and hit center of mass at 25 feet easily. I can shoot it offhand and hit center of mass at ten feet and closer every time.

If you get one take a look at the Pearce floorplate for the magazine. It puts a little finger rest at the base of the handle that makes controlling the gun very easy.

With all due respect, Coltdriver, I will have to disagree with most of your points.
The trigger is not just like a revolver...my S&W revolvers have triggers in the 10 to 12 lb. range...versus in excess of 20 lbs. in the Pocket Nine I tried.
I do agreee that spare mags are now available but were not for some time.
I do agree that lack of spare parts could be a problem.
The reason the value is going up has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the gun. The sole reason for the value of these guns is that Colt made very few of them and then quit making them.
An interesting point is that Colt was facing multiple lawsuits from Kahr at the time of the discontinuation of the Pocket Nine over patent infringements.
And as for your statement that nothing can equal them...the Kahr MK9 not only equals it...it exceeds it. The Kahr is more accurate, more reliable, with a better trigger, and a similar size.
And as for the Pearce floorplate...yeah it makes it more shootable...but it kills the concealability.

Sundance,

When I shoot a revolver, I tend to grip the gun very tightly in anticipation of a big boom from a relatively small gun, like a .38 with +p for example. Since I do the same thing with my Pocket Nine this tends to negate the heavier trigger pull. The trigger pull is not as bad, for example, as a kel tec which is both heavy and long or a sigma which is heavy, long and gritty. Mine is comparable to my Kahr MK40 in weight.

You are right, Colt was in fact sued by Kahr and Kahr prevailed. If you take a look at any of the Kahr series they have an offset barrel lug. This allows for a tighter fit with the trigger mechanism and a skinnier pistol with a lower barrel mount. The Pony and the Pocket Nine were all affected. I don't know if the Defender has this configuration or not.

I had a Kahr P9 which I really liked but sold to finance the Pocket Nine which was just a bit smaller and the layout made for easier carry.

The MK9 is a great gun, I have an MK40 which is a keeper for me. But the MK9 weighs more, right? Like another half a pound I think?

I had a Pearce floor plate on my P9 and have them on my MK40 too. For me, they make these small guns controllable. I could handle the 9mm without one, but the 40 is unmanageable without the floor plate.

When Kahr comes out with the MP9, I will be first in line to get one.

I carry my Pocket Nine in an Alessie Talon. Very easy to conceal and at ~16 oz it carries easily. I did replace the Hogue wraparound grips with some smooth wood that I "lucked" into.

As for the trigger, mine is crisp and a bit "stout" - though no where near 20lb.

I sold mine for what I paid for it after a few light hits and failures to fire. I don't miss it. At the time spare mags could not be had at any price.

The Kahr is a much better gun. The MP-9 when it comes out will be superior in all respects .
