I started a thread on THR and haven't gotten very much:
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=165949

I pretty much have given up trying to get the magazine apart, and started reassembling. I noticed I was having a hard time putting the barrel on and couldn't get it to cycle right. Upon further inspection, I found another part that is different from the parts kit I bought. I turns out the piston pin, the pin that holds the piston to the recoil spring, has changed over the years. Mine has a low head. The new one had a higher head that was rubbing against the barrel.

So, do I have an original 1400 or a MkII. Were there that many changes between the two?

It has been too many years since I owned a 1400.
I do not have any owner's manuals either it seems for these.

Our own Mr. Nolden may perhaps be of service here on TFL or over at THR, PM him.

I never in the tens of thousands of rds I fired, or anyone else I recall, every attempting to , or needing to take the mag tube off or mess with it. It is restricted to 2 shells only, one in the mag making 3 total. Gas system is in there.
1400s are THE softest shooting semis.
I would shoot mine 200-500 rds b/t cleanings. I used it [ a 20 ga btw] to teach new shooters, loan for dove/ quail hunts, small game, deer - you name it- and shoot skeet, 5 stand and sporting clays, and my own hunting . It always ran - period.

Truth is, these never needed any attention. And my shooting and that of shooting buddies was "hard shooting and high rd counts". In all sorts of weather, temps and conditions.

Only part I messed with as the screw opposite breech that holds ejector in place. That and screw in a Skeet Choke...change chokes.

I would contact Nu-Line - http://www.nulineguns.com/

This is where we all ordered anything Winchester, had any work done on Winchesters if needed.

Only serious problem I ever saw over many years, hundreds of thousands of rds fired by all of us...one fellow had the vent rib get bent when he stumbled getting out of duck blind into the boat. Nu-Line fixed it as new.

Not many folks are that aware of the 1400 for some reason. Probably why so little response to your inquiries.

Best of Luck.

Regards,

Steve

Since purchase, this hasn't been very reliable. I bought the kit in the hopes that these were the parts that wear the quickest, so replacing them may improve reliability. I also bought an new ejector from Brownell's to see if that makes a difference.

The same here. I bought a 140 and it never ran right. The mag follower was chewed up due to years of being shot and caused all kinds of interesting problems. I ordered a new follower thinking it would be a piece of cake only to find out that the mag tube is press fitted and could only be changed by a gunsmith. The only good smith around here is 40 minutes away and only works 3 days a week for 6 hours so I traded it in.

As of late I am unable to send an email through TFL, however, If you well send me your email addy: to my email addy: hnolden@haoo.com requesting the disassem, (in the subject) I will send them to you w/photos
