any thoughts on the Marlin 795

The store next to my work has them on sale for $100.00 and i have been thinking about getting a cheap .22 for plinking and the such. Im not expecting magic or anything from a gun at that price, but im wondering how it compares to other 22 semi-auto rifles.

IMO, the rifle's a steal at $135... moreso at $100. Might consider an investment into either techsights or a cheap rimfire scope.

I already have a good scope that is on the Oregon Arms Chipmunk that i shot as a kid, so i figured that i would just switch it over now that the chipmunk is far to small for me.

Its a winner. As accurate as my Marlin bolt. And has been completely reliable in the couple thousand rounds through it so far. Feeds all standard and high velocity rounds that I've put through it. Not rated for hyper velocity or sub-sonic rounds.

I dont really need hyper or sub rounds in this gun, its olny going to be used for friendly target shooting and plinking. i have read that they can be picky on ammo but thats ok, i buy quality .22 rounds already because they are still way cheaper compared to all the other rounds that i shoot.

I will try again tomorrow but my experence at the big name brick and mortar today was not good. i called them on my lunch and sat on hold for over 30 minutes waiting to get an answer on if they had any in stock. on my second call i finally got a person and they had 4 of them in stock. after work went there to buy one and a decent sling. I waited for service at the counter for awhile looking at all the differnt rifles i wanted to see (they have a rem 700 varmint 308 on sale too, its on my list and also in the budget) but no one came back to help me. I talked to a manager and he promised to have someone expecting me after work tomorrow. so i guess i'll try again, i hope it works out because i have bought all my guns up untill now through local stores and i would like to continue to support them

I have had two for over 10 years. Never FTF ot FTE and I like the "traditional" magazine. Very underrated and best deal for the $$$.

A new member to the family. I cant wait to get out and shoot it, maybe this weekend.

Buy at least one. My buddy has one. It would be considered extremely accurate at any price, let alone $100. We use it to put holes in the round bases of 20-ga shot cups at 50yd with a BSA 4x. The ammo we use is Federal American Eagle.

I bought one today. $139 on sale less a $25 rebate from Marlin -- $114. I took a newbie to a chain and was showing him what to use in the Appleseed Project shoots. The 10/22 was about twice as much and not as good for the money IMO. I couldn't pass up on it and the guy I took did!

I have Tech Sights on a 10/22 I tried using in an Appleseed for the hell of it (which I them immediately bought the Clark trigger for). Probably want them for this too if only to make 'em windage adjustable...

More thoughts!?

Wow! So the $25 rebate is back on? I've been waiting for this....want to pick up a couple for loaners at Appleseeds!

Thanks for the heads-up. All I do is either add Tech Sights or a scope, then you're good to go. Wish the extra mags were cheaper....

You will benefit from removing the paint overspray from the inside of the receiver, this will make the action smoother.
