Any suggestions for scout scope?

I'm trying to get my Marlin 1894P (.44mag guide gun) set up
for hunting/plinking.
I'll probably put an AO scout mount on it with a low power scope.
Looking for suggestions on scopes and where to find the best deals on this equipment.
If anyone has their rifle setup this way how do you like it?

Thanks.

there is only a few scopes u can get for a scout set up. the bewst is probably either the Leupold 2x or 2.5 power Scout model with extended eye relif.

I have one of the Leupold 2.5x IER (Intermediate Eye Relief) scopes on my scout rifle. I simply love this setup, its clear its fast and its accurate. I haven't had the chance to use it in the field however as I just got my scout rifle on Monday. I've done some field type shooting with it and it performed beautifully. Another option is the Burris scout scope. I haven't used this one so I don't have anything to say about it. I'd just just stick with the Leupold...we all know about Leupold's quality... A good place to buy is: www.bearbasin.com

Somewhat curious as to how/why a "scout/EER" scope is in any way better than a standard low-powered scope on a rifle ......

Only EER scope I've used have been on handguns, & are obviously of decent use there.

Seems like (to me) that you mount your rifle &, if all's right with the world, your sight picture will be "there," & you merely shoot.

If you want to see "more," you look around the scope a tad ....

I seriously don'tget the "scout scope" concept & what, if any, benefit it provides.

I use 1.5s, 2s variables for most everything I do - all dialed down to the lowest settings for quick target acquisition - which they do quite well. Anything else further & "out there" gets a dialed up magnification.

What am I missing with the "scout scope?" What, if anything is gained by having the scope mounted a bit further up the barrel?

I have 2 Leupold M8 2.5X Scout scopes. One is on a custom Enfield scout rifle and one is on my Guide Gun (45-70). I have been very pleased with their performance.

I used my Enfield scout to shoot a very nice 9 point last year. It was on the run at about 100 yds.. 3 shots, 3 hits right where I wanted them. This type of scope setup shines when shooting at moving targets or in the woods and is still precise enough to allow me to be confident in my shot placement out to 300 yds.. with a little practice you'll see what I mean.

Get the Leupold and either some Leupold or Warne QD rings. Set up with the Ashley mount and a set of good ghost rings or peeps and you should be ready for most anything.

labgrade, the beauty of the scout mount can't be explained... At first it sounded quirky to me. That's until I bought my scout rifle that I have now. It is super quick to point and accurate enough for fairly long shots on game. I don't know what to tell you...I'd let you shoot mine if I could! Its not a setup that is theoretically ideal but it works great in practice.

Primary advatage of the forward mounted scope is....

You can load a bolt gun with stripper clips that way. Ejection problems are avoided in some cases.

Secondly, with a heavier recoiling rifle, you don't get "scope eye".

I have "amended" scout set ups on a 6.5x55 Swede and a 35 Whelen. They both shoot very well.
